Anita Body analysis scale

so has anyone ever heard of or used one of these? The gym where i go has this scale and they charge $5 to stand on it. so would it be worth $5 to use the scale?

thanks

Chris

I have a Tanita too. I love it.

It cost me $68. It gives very accurate/repeatable weights.

It gives body fat % and water % too. The bf% varies a bit, depending on what you did the night/day before, but its still very repeatable. Its interesting to watch the water %. You know if you went up 2 pounds and the water % went up too that you are just bloated.

I highly recommend these scales for people serious about their weight.

If you search for other posts about scales you'll find that many people suggest getting a non-bodyfat% scale because the readings are highly inaccurate.

$5 to use a scale? They like to nickel and dime you, don't they?

As others have said, buy your own scale and use it as often as you want. If you weigh yourself every morning then after two weeks the scale has paid for itself :-)

I don't know if mine is inaccurate or not. I'll buy a bf caliper and find out shortly.

What I do know is that it seems pretty consistent and repeatable. I think it is very valuable for identifying trends. It is also far faster and easier to use.

I think BF scales are a useful tool. I wouldn't pay $5 for using one though. I'd buy my own.

i mainly want to measure my body fat. the general scale at the gym works fine for monitoring body weight.

Depends on the model of the scale. Tanita is basically a parent company to many other scales. The tanita fat scales that we carry in our store range in price from $50 - $120. With the $50 i've found that the readings for bodyfat tend to be off by about 5-7%. Going up the ladder to the higher end ones not only do you get more features out of it (ie. User I.d's, Bone Mass and some other readings) I have found the bodyfat percent room for error is under 0.5%

I'd love to know what model numbers are accurate and which one's aren't. There is a big difference in the BF reading on my scale between the athlete and non athlete settings. Like 10%.

As well take into considerationg whether or not you fall into the athletic category. With that, here is a list off the Tanita website that shows a their Innerscan Lineup. The only one off of this list that doesn't have the athlete mode is the 573.
