This is absurd. I heard this on the radio and found it online. As if there wasn't enough supplement hysteria. Now journalists are calling creatine a 'steroid alternative'. People are denying using it as if it's an illegal substance.
------------------------------------
Is chrome-domed British actor Patrick Stewart trying to bulk up with a designer dietary supplement?
Lowdown hears that the 65-year-old Stewart, best known for "X-Men" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation," has been seeing a personal trainer and consulting his doctor about taking creatine.
That's the flavorless, <B>white-powdered steroid alternative</B>, made synthetically from amino acids, that's supposed to boost energy and build muscle.
But be very careful, Capt. Jean-Luc Picard: Creatine's potential side effects include kidney disorders, muscle tears, dehydration, diarrhea and cramping. Plus, although legal, the supplement remains controversial, as when St. Louis Cardinals slugger <B>Mark McGwire had to defend his use</B> of it when he shattered Roger Maris' single-season home run record in 1998.
"We in the medical world are averse to recommending medical supplements when we don't have hard evidence saying there are no ill effects," says Robert Gotlin, director of orthopedic and sports rehabilitation at Beth Israel Medical Center. "The issue of kidney stones, we think, is related to it. People who use it get stomach complaints. <B>My advice is, don't take it.</B>"
Yesterday, Stewart's spokeswoman insisted from London: "I spoke to Patrick. He is categorically not taking creatine or any other supplements."
Fine and dandy, Capt. Picard, but please, don't even consider it.

hmmm......BS meter is going off the charts
LOL. The problem is what is generally happening in most of our country. A lot of these journalists are tubby-bellied, pencil-arm demigogue f%6ks without any knowledge whatsoever of supplements and serious penis envy when it comes to people who are actually and shape and take care of their bodies. They know next to NOTHING about supplements but yet attempt to act as seriously "informed" individuals. Its ridiculous the crap people are pulling, but its to be expected.

I was in the local library today looking for some books and one book caught my eye. It was titled 'Disgusting Drugs:Steroids' so out of curiosty I had to peep it. The book was obviously aimed at children telling about all the 'horrors' of anabolic steroids. In the back section they had 'steroid alternatives' and creatine was number one on the list! They were telling about how 'dangerous' creatine is and basically said that it was like taking anabolic steroids. I had to laugh and shake my head in disbelief. What a crock!

Hate to bust your bubble, but legit doctors do not get "kick backs" from "drug companies". That is illegal. Drug companies can sponsor studies (university, private etc), and even retain a physician as a spokesman or consultant. But the doctor you see to get some Viagra is not pocketing cash per script from Pfizer.
Not being rude, just a student doctor defending the profession.

We had a doctor in the pediatrics section removed for associating too closely with Schering-Plough on Foradil. Its kind of like college recruiting and recruits not supposed to take cash or gifts, but we all know it happens a lot, more often then is reported.
I think most doctors mean well, but to say that there aren't doctors doing under the table deeds is rather naive considering the amount of cashflow coming in from above.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.

what are you guys talking about roids being legal illegal at 21? wut country are you living in, i never knew anything of the sort, unless you refer to prohormones.
Also its weird you mention, i was just wondering to myself if creatine couldn't cause kidney stones, i don't see why it wouldn't actually, but im no expert on kidney stones, it just looks like a substance that would haha. But i do remember reading there is only one documented case of it being a problem for someone with a PRE existing kidney problem, problem went away after he stopped taking it. Also it is synthetic, so i cant see how it can't be bad in some way, usually synthetic stuff is bad for somehting, but then again im not an expert maybe someone can clear this up. BTW i did read about the good things creatine has to offer, increased bone mass, immune boost and maybe something else.
