Forearm and Wrist Pains - Need suggestions

Last week during my bicep routine I started to get a sharp pain in my left forearm when performing curls. The pain starts from my wrist and goes down the back (palm side) of my forearm. So I decided to see what happens to see if the pain went away, cause I never had any pains like this before.

Last night when I went to the gym, during my bicep routine the same thing happened again. I couldn't even lift as heavy as normal, because of the sharp pain. So now I am basically deciding that there is something wrong, and it could possibly be tendonitis.

This really sucks that it is happening right now because I had 2 months left on my bulk, and I wanted to gain as much as possible right before I go on my cut for the spring. But with this injury it seems like I might have to cut my bulk short..

Now my question is do you think I should quit lifting heavy all together and start my cut early, this way as to not risk further injury from lifting heavy?
And if I do go on a cut would it be okay to just lift very light for bicep days so I don't lose muscle?

I really don't want to quit training all together because I had a whole plan of how I wanted to be by summer, and this would really hinder everything if I had to take months off just because of this.

Oh and I cannot see a doctor at the moment because I do not have insurance and money is tight to be paying out of pocket for this kind of thing right now.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I get the same thing sometimes, usually just a cause of not letting my forearms heal/rest up enough

I'll give you an example because it happened to me this past week, sunday/monday I went snowboarding and fell alot.. my forearms/wrists were hurt but I worked out back anyway on wednesday, did 5 sets of curls afterwards

then 2 days later I had my arms day and did curls again and the pain came up, I don't think its too serious... just try and let em rest up well and see if it gets better

I hope you are right because I really don't want to have to quit lifting heavy right now... I was really trying to see if I could gain like 10lbs in the next 2 months, and if this pain doesn't go away that is not likely to happen...

Last week when I was lifting it only hindered my performance during bicep curls. I was able to do all my other exercises that didn't involve using the biceps, but even though I'm sure it didn't hurt, you obviously still use your forearms for just about every exercises, so I just dont want to make it worse.

dynamiks: Two questions
1. Do you use a bent curl bar or straight bar?
2. Maybe a typo but you said pain starts at your wrist and goes down your forarm? Doyou mean it shoots down your hand or up? if up, dos it stop at the bicept or back of the elbow joint?

1. I usually start my workouts with the straight olympic bar and thats when I feel it the most. When I do EZ curls and dumb bells, the pain is less intense but still present. It hurts the most on the straight bar though.

2. the pain is pretty much along the bone of my forearm, and it stops at my elbow, it doesn't reach my bicep.

I just tried it... it doesn't really hurt in that motion.

It hurts in an upward motion when I am raising my hand palms up... but only with a heavy weight. with no weight, there isn't much pain.

from the symptoms you have posted it sounds like you have damaged or you are developing a nerve impingment in your wrist. I would recommend curling only with the bent bar and stopping when any pain or discomfert is felt.
I'm not a doctor so take my advice as advice only.
I have to go now but I will look in my orthopidic testing book to see if there is a better test to narrow down the problem will post back on thursday.

Thanks for the help... It is much appreciated. And yest I think I will follow your advice because the flat bar seems to put alot more stress on my forearm than using the EZ bars or regular dumb bells. I guess its the way the bar is held that puts so much stress on the forearm when lifting.

I think I am also going to try using lifting straps, I heard they help give a better grip, and reduce some of the stress from the forearms when lifting.

Yeah i used to get the same thing in my forearms... I just lowered the weight slightly. I got them mostly from preacher curls, that exercise seems to put the most strain on the forearms. I was told it is a forearm splint, much like a shin splint.

How long did it take for your forearms to heal? I really want to continue my workouts, so I'm hoping I wont have to take time off.
