Cookie's journal
by popular request lol. well not really, by one or two requests.
today's workout:
20 minutes treadmill, wanted to do more but people were waiting. I can only run about 10 minutes before having to walk, I'm going to get my butt kicked at this 5k on Feb 9th. I think my pace is around 35 minutes right now I'm hoping the adrenaline on race day plus whatever training I manage to get in will make up for my poor endurance and the altitude change.
today was arms and I upped the weights for the first time in a while. There weren't any girls lifting at my old gym, but here there are some pretty buff chicks who aren't using the baby weights and it makes me feel a little more competitive.
12.5lbsx10x5 for:
dumbbell curls
skull crushers
triceps extension
10lbsx5x1 (ahhh too heavy!) and 7.5lbsx5x4 for:
lateral arm extensions (delts)
forward arm extensions <- right name? who knows..
all supersetted. cus I like it like that and it keeps my heart rate up.
smith machine- 10x5 pushups and pullups.
30x2 bicycle crunches (like these)
20x2 crunches (meh)
10x4 leg lift machine (argh hate these!)
(I hate abs but I try to do a few just for good measure).
et voila!
I used to do concentration curls but skipped them this time because I just don't like them that much. same for tricep pulldown. I think I used the right terminology for this stuff but I definitely just had to go look it all up because I did not know the names of anything but skull crushers lol. I forgot how awesome Disturbed is for getting pumped up, I haven't listened to that in ages but will definitely be playing them again next time.
oh and I also finally signed the paperwork to switch to my new gym. so happy! people here actually are into working out(!) and are younger. my old gym was pretty quite and everyone seemed to be there out of obligation. people at the new one are friendly but not in the creepy way they were at the old one. plus it has a sweet spa and tennis courts! yay!
tomorrow: maybe going for a run before work, probably just 10-15 minutes around a few blocks, and then planning to do cardio and legs after work.
and now I feel like I have electric shock waves running through me in the form of cramps, so I'm going to curl up with my heating pad and pass out watching the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. buenas nochas!

Dear diary..
some people apparently think we are using the wrong format here.. quite possible, I'm not really sure what the difference is and I don't think I really care. what does subbed mean? not good shockwaves, bad ones. I wish!
Morning run: 10 min
Treadmill: 30 min
80lbsx10x5 leg press
20lbsx10x5 ATG squats
70lbsx10x2 adductions
90lbsx10x5 abductions
70lbsx10x4 freemotion squats
steam room (aahh..)
I really like doing free squats (w/o the Smith machine) but the bar hurts my bony back even with a pad, still trying to figure that out. I'm pretty sure I could handle more weight but I'm still not completely stable with it so I'm going to wait. I'm looking for suggestions for leg exercises. I add lunges in sometimes but they make my knees wonky. basically I'm aiming for a butt the size of the Jupiter lol.
I get 3 free personal training sessions, wohoo one to test fitness level, one for planning workouts, and one for working on technique. plus a free massage! yessssss! taking tomorrow off.
making cranberry oatmeal cookies now, yum!

so you need to list what your "split" is. not that you have to follow it to a tee, but give us an idea of what you would do in an ideal world. if you want help with exercises that is no problem, but lets see the split first.
and pinch your shoulder blades together before you get under the bar for squats, keep your head forward (maybe a little bit up) and experiment with putting it higher and lower. or you can hold onto dumbbells...
oh and "subbed" means i subscribed to your journal, in other words, im stalking you hardcore.

thanks, I'll try that technique. I do pinch already, but it would probably feel better if it was resting more on my traps than my shoulder bone.. hmm dumbbells.. it just looks so much cooler with a barbell though!
Today:
1 mile on treadmill. stopped from stomach cramps... walked it out. yeah I walk it out, I walk it out-out
then:
3.2 miles on treadmill! (yesssssssss!!!!) in 39min. +.5 mile cooldown.
so happy that I did the whole distance w/o having to stop and I actually enjoyed it! I tried walking frequently and running slowly and it made so much difference.
I'm going to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico for the day tomorrow to have lobsters with the girls from work. planning a short run in the morning.

you're adorable soooo... what are we doing for Valentine's Day??
my time was 28:59!!! wohooooo!!!
*edit* just found out I got 2nd place in my age group, yay!
here's a picture. they're all pretty goofy looking, but hey I wasn't out there to look pretty haha.
me, Josh, and his girlfriend:
I had a lot of fun, I think I like the 5k distance, not too painful and you get to sprint a bit. actually I didn't realize the finish was coming up so I hardly sprinted at all.. I forgot my inhaler too, so I had to walk a few times. Now Josh has to come out to SD (since I visited him in AZ) and do a 5k here. I beat him because he walked with his girlfriend for a bit. I'm going to shoot for 27 minutes next time. I was trying to find my time afterwards and I was looking and looking, couldn't find my name anywhere, then I realized maybe by some crazy chance I should look under 30 minutes, and there I was very happy!!

Congratulations!! I know that is so exciting! I cannot get the hang of running long distances. I've tried all types of programs like couch to 5K..but I just cannot get my endurance up. So, I admire you in being able to finish it much less under 30 min!! Thats great!

today:
23 minutes running
30lbsx10x4 squats. as far down as I could go, didn't quite make ATG every time. I keep the bar on my upper traps this time and it didn't hurt, yay
90lbsx10x5 leg press
25lbsx10x5 lunges
speedy workout because I had to get home to get ready to go out. ended up inadvertently going on a date tonight! whoops! I thought I was hanging out with a bunch of friends who just happened to be guys, who knew... have to be less oblivious in the future!!!!

took some new photos today. I had been waiting to see if I could do a little better with carbs for a while first, but that hasn't been happening. I swear I can see at least a 4 pack when I'm looking in the mirror sometimes, I just can't seem to catch it on camera.
I my goal is still more toning, I wish my abs had those vertical lines. I want to have the hottest body on the beach I don't really want a 6 pack though, I think that would not be so attractive. I'd like my arms to be a little bit more defined too, I think I just need to work them harder. I'm pretty happy with legs. and bum can always stand to be larger
Thoughts? Suggestions?

dear diary... apparently someone got over the fact that we aren't using proper format now I feel like this journal is missing something. it isn't animal porn, but maybe something else..
was going to work arms today but ended up going on a 2 hour hike of Torrey Pines, so I'm skipping the gym. Did I mention how much I love San Diego???? so glad I moved here!!!

Treadmill: 15min
Stairmaster: 10 min
12.5lbsx10x3 bicep curls
12.5lbsx15x3 barbell presses
7.5lbsx8x2 and 7.5lbsx6x1 lat and forward arm extensions
15x1 and 13x2 of Smith pullups and pushups
10lbsx15x1 and l0lbsx10x2 tricep pulldowns
It felt like a low energy workout (I was literally yawning lol) but adding a few extra reps made it a lot harder to do more sets.

anoooother weak workout. yeah I really have not been feeling it lately. I'm going to try doing more stuff outside the gym.
stairmaster: 20min
30lbsx10x4 squats
20lbsx10x3 stiff deadlifts
90lbsx10x2 free motion squats
ran out of time so I had to leave. it was my first time trying the deadlifts and they were ok but my lower back feels a little worked so I don't think I was doing it completely right. need more caffeine next time!

Monday: pilates. first class ever. didn't realize it was almost all abs, that kind've sucked, but oh well. meh.
Today: personal fitness assessment-
13.9% body fat!!! yayyyy!! so cool, I've never been that low. apparently the last trainer who measured me at 23 was on crack, cus I look almost the same now and weigh more. kind've funny too because I eat EVERYTHING. granted most of it is healthy, but there is a lot of sugar and carbs, and I eat all day long.
20 girl pushups (whew!)
54 on flexibility... what does that number mean?
37-25-37 measurements! I was always more like 36-26-34, so that's pretty cool, my butt is definitely growing and my waist shrinking so I'm more hourglass
left quad is like half an inch smaller than righty, calf is a little smaller too.
on a side note: someone is apparently bum hurt that I negged them in December and has been commenting on this photo (quite a lot) saying I belong in the Special Olympics. I kind've agree lol. that's why I didn't post the rest of my race pics!

admin however seems to like my spoon pic
