Eggs Yolks - good or bad?
What do you guys and gals think? I read conflicting reports stating that eating the yolks do NOT cause high chloestoral, then I read others that say they do.
Whta does everyone think on this?

I eat 2 whole eggs (including yolk)
From what I have read, at least one study showed that a group who ate two whole eggs per day for about 12 weeks showed greater strength/mass gains than a control group that did not eat 2 yolks.
Basically it seems like the old school thinking about avoiding yolks for fear of cholesterol is not worth worrying about unless you have a current cholesterol problem.
I don't have a cholesterol problem, so I currently include 2 whole eggs every day and a whole bunch of liquid egg whites.

I eat a lot of eggs every day. I don't know how much longer I can take it, I am starting to grow feathers.
Yorkshireman I: Right! They are bad for you if you double-batter them and slow-fry them in lard.
They are bad for you if you inhale them.
They are bad for you if you try to put them in a pipe and smoke them.
They are good for you if you scramble them or boil them in H2O.

1/4 cup chopped red (sweet onion), 1 chopped clove garlic, 1/2 red (sweet pepper), saute in olive oil first, then add 2-3 whole eggs mixed in a bowl with a couple table-spoons of milk, 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, and (optional) 1/2 small green jalepeno pepper. Scramble in the same pan w. the onion and garlic, add salt and pepper to taste, and down the hatch...

I used to eat egg whites with a couple of whole eggs thrown in to give the mess a pleasant color. But since moving to Ireland, I haven't been able to get egg whites. The last time I checked, I was eating over 40 whole eggs a week. I'm not that worried about the cholesterol (which was fine the last time I had it checked), but I am a bit bummed about all extra fat I'm getting from the yokes.

There really isn't that much fat in an egg, 3-4g.
Look at a Snickers bar sometime

This reminded me of a favorite way to eat eggs, not healthy, just tasty.
Scotch Eggs
Take a shelled hardboiled egg
cover it with a quarter inch of pork sausage meat
then roll in seasoned breading and deep fry.

2 a day............
If you eat two yolks a day, recent studies show you'll be just fine! I eat 2 a day and upwards of 12 whites.

that's exactly what I have every morning, but at around 9am, about 3 hours after my 6am shake. I get the biggest eggs available - I don't know but maybe the biggest eggs are laid by the healthiest chickens, and either scramble them or microwave them. Look foward to the taste every time.

Eggs Are GOOD for you!
When I eat eggs, I eat the whole thing, yolks and all. Its a natural food that has all the vitamins and minerals you need except Vitamin C. I don't believe they are bad for you. My blood pressure and cholesterol are normal and I don't take any medications for it. My grandfather ate 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice and coffee for breakfast everyday of his life. He was lean and had plenty of energy at the age of 95 when he died from head trama from a fall while getting out of the shower. My take on this is to stay away from any processed foods.

Cholestrol is in a similar position to high blood pressure. Whilst egg yolks, cheese and animal products can contribute to high cholestrol, the outstanding overriding factor is genetics. Like blood pressure , studies are showing that cholestrol is as much linked to familial as to diet. Most bodybuilders use oats with there protein shake and oats are proven in the fight to lower cholestrol ; so the oats in theory counteract the yolks. So enjoy the egg yolks and keep eating the oats and try not to worry - thats the problem with modern media - Scare tactics.
Within the realms of reason - nothing is impossible.

I've been eating at least a dozen eggs each week for decades. When I see people throw away the yolk and just eat the whites...I get a chuckle...throwin' away the best part!

I thought this myth has been proved false?
these fats do not up the bodyfat too much, it's more things like carbs, see I may be close to 20% (I really could not say) but I eat some form of pasta weekly, and don't care, performing fitness is all I care about.
add to that things like cheesy, mashed, potatoes, stuffing, and a solid dessert regularly, is my diet.

I think that a lot of how a substance affects a person depends on their exercise habits. We often hear of old folks who ate this, drank that, and smoked something else and yet lived to a ripe old age. But, most folks from yester-year did some sort of manual labor for a living and most of them didn't have cars and had to walk to work, to church, to school, to the bar, or to buy groceries.
In our modern age where people drive everywhere, sit at a desk for a living, and watch television for entertainment, folks are becoming more vulnerable to minor excesses in diet or drink that used to be no big deal. For an active individual, 4 or more whole eggs a day builds and sustains a healthy body. For your average, modern-day couch potato, 4 or more eggs a day leads to heart disease.
I'm currently living in Ireland where the whole culture seems to be about 50 years behind what I'm used to in the US. Most folks walk everywhere in Galway while eating tonns of mayonaise, sausages and fried food while drinking a lot of alcohol and yet I see very few grotesquely obese Irish people. But given time, I'm sure the modern Irish life-style of living in the burbs and driving to work at a high-tech job will cause the traditional Irish diet to take more and more lives the hard way.
So, enjoy your egg yolks. Just don't stop working out!

I eat 6 eggs a day, scrambled. Everyone of them has the yolk too. My last physical, which was about 4 months ago, said my cholesterol level was good. So who knows the answer, I just know I love eggs!
