    professor says you need to break down muscle to build it?

    today my teacher in college told us that in order to build muscle you need to break it down. is this true? i always thought that to build muscle you need to tear it by lifting and then the tearing gets repaired which causes the muscle to get bigger.

    You are correct, your professor definitely meant what you are thinking and not wasting away muscles.

    Resistance is the ticket to make ones muscle cells larger. Worth mentioning, proper nutrition and rest are key as well.

    When you work out, you are tearing muscle fibers. The protein you eat during the day is used to rebuild those fibers back stronger and bigger. Hence, building muscle.
