Keep it in a sealed container, I wouldn't keep it around for more than a couple of days. If you have the long grain variety, it will get hard pretty sooner than the short grain variety due to their slightly different starch make up.

I find it lasts awhile, but then I'm not picky when it comes to food quality.

If it gets too hard and dry to eat normally, make fried rice!

    "Storing Brown Rice
Cooked brown rice can be stored, covered tightly, in a shallow container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or in the freezer for 6 months according to the USA Rice Federation. After cooked rice has cooled in the refrigerator, transfer it to plastic freezer bags in quantities needed for future meals. Label with the date and quantity.

Because of the oil in its bran layer, brown rice has a shorter shelf life than white rice and maintains its quality for about six months. For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze brown rice. "

    opps, should have added:

    "IMPORTANT! Refrigerating Cooked Rice

Promptly refrigerate extra cooked rice in shallow containers as it cools faster in the refrigerator. It's OK to refrigerate foods while they're still warm. Perishable cooked foods, such as rice, shouldn't be left at room temperature longer than TWO hours TOTAL time.

For thicker foods -- such as rice, soups, hot puddings, etc. -- limit depth of food to 2 inches. Loosely cover the rice. This allows heat to escape and protects from accidental contamination from other foods during cooling. Cover tightly when cooled."

    rice storage

The general rule of thumb is 4 days in a sealed container. Health concerns after too long for rice-- no matter what variety.

But I love rice so much I always eat it all the day I make it....

For how much rice costs you may as well cook more. Give any leftovers to your pets or birds.

One of my friends got seriously ill from eating leftover rice (reheating it can be dangerous if not done correctly). I don't think it's worth the risk.

EDIT: It seems that it's not the reheating that causes the problem but how it was cooled.

I can't post links (not enough posts)...but google search 'danger reheating rice' for results OR if you want specifics, Google 'danger reheating rice NHS', which should take you to the UK government's website about the page. Rice is one of the most dangerous foods to eat later.

I'll see if I can paste it:
Can reheating rice cause food poisoning?

Yes. You can get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. However, it's not the reheating that causes the problem but the way the rice has been stored before it was reheated.
How does reheated rice cause food poisoning?

Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive.

If the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea.

The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria or toxins could make the rice unsafe to eat.
    Symptoms of food poisoning

If you eat rice that contains Bacillus cereus bacteria you may sick and experience vomiting or diarrhoea about 1-5 hours afterwards. Symptoms are relatively mild and usually last about 24 hours.
    Tips on serving rice safely

ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked
if that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour)
keep rice in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating
when you reheat any rice, always check that the dish is steaming hot all the way through
do not reheat rice more than once

    Re-heat rice

If your rice has gone hard while refrigerating, adding a little moisture while re-heating can help. I used a little water or some low sodium soy sauce. Chicken broth also works well. A little goes a long way.

I pretty much stick to black rice these days, so keep that in mind here... but I've left it in the fridge for upwards of 8-9 days and had no problems. It wasn't sketchy in any way when eaten cold.
