How to turn large muscular thighs into thin and lean thighs?

I had been doing squats and all kinds of leg exercises for 4 years during football. Now I'm two years out and I just want to thin my thighs out because I can't fit into any normal jeans. What kind of exercises and reps should I do? I'm obviously not concerned with strength.

You could just try to maintain your strength w/ one exercise per week. Squats one week, Leg Press the next, then some Hack squats the next week. That way you're still strong but not getting any bigger.

Other than that just diet some and you should lose weight/inches around your entire body.

Maybe go slightly higher-rep on your exercises.
Starting to suck a little less at benching...

It's a matter of switching up your fiber type....if training heavy, fast twitch fibers will predominate. Go lighter and higher reps and go figure, slow twitch fibers (lean, sinewy type) will take over. This'll definitely lean you out, especially so if you take your cardio up a notch. Try switching up leg days for muscle group as well, meaning do quads mixed in with chest on day 1 and hamstrings with back or shoulders on day 3, etc.
