Got tested in a Bod Pod today

OK - I can see the 19% in that pic. You look good but I think you are gonna look awesome once you get down a few pounds. It looks like you put some mass on compared to the pics posted on your profile.

The polite term is "I was bulking"...lol It was fun gaining the 20 lbs, but it isn't so fun trying to get it off again. Hopefully what you see is what actually happened. Maybe I did get a few lbs of muscle with the large amounts of fat.

Hmm...if that's you at 19%...I'm probably about 25 - 30%.

If you are not familiar with Charleston make sure you use map quest to get good directions to the college or PM me and I will ride down there with you if I can. Charleston streets are pretty screwed up the way they are laid out and the Citadel is on the border of a bad neighborhood.

Anyway, I was surprised that I was only 19.4% bf at 211lbs. Meaning 41lbs of fat, and 171lbs of lean. I am pleasantly surprised that I have 171 lbs of lean at 5'8". I only need to get down to 190 to be at 10%, assuming I lose nothing but fat! lol

It will be interesting to find out how much you retain when you get down to 4%. Over the years my body weight has been up to 238 and down to 168. The lean mass changes a lot.

Thanks for the help. I just saw on the internet that Coastal Carolina University here locally in Myrtle beach will do underwater weighing for $35!! I am so excited I cant wait to call them tomorrow to schedule an appointment. I think they are gonna get tired of seeing me in there lol.

Haven't seen anyone mention Bod Pod, but I went up to Old Dominion University and got my body composition done in one today for the princely sum of $25. The guy also did my bf% using the 3 point caliper test, just to compare.(I always measure too low using that method).

Anyway the Bod Pod was kind of freaky, you get in with just a tight pair of shorts and a bathing cap. It somehow measures how dense you are, and voila!

BTW, the calipers tested me at only 12%. A huge difference.

Anyway, look around your area for a Bod Pod and give it a try. It is a lot easier than getting dunked from what I hear.

keep in mind the bod pod test total fat...you also have internal fat, i.e. organs, etc... so you might be closer to 12 then you think

I'd gladly pay $25 for this a couple times a year. Once after I cut and another at the end of a bulk. I did a bio-electrical impedance handheld body fat analyzer last year and it had me at 17.5%. I personally thought I was a bit lower, but whatever. My eyeballs tell me in between 13 - 15% right now.

Just an FYI. For those having a hard time finding a bod pod, you may also want to look for a place with a DEXA machine. I found one at the University of Texas in Austin in their Health Sciences dept located in the football stadium. $75 for students, $90 for non-students, however each time I've been in they have only charged me the $75 even though I have no affiliation with the university.

DEXA is considered to be the gold standard with the bod pod and hydrostatic being right after. Calipers in skilled hands can get close, but without the visceral fat that is measured by the former methods. The bio electric impedance method is simply not very accurate at all. Variations in hydration show up big time with bioelectric impedance devices. I tried an experiment once, did BIA then drank a liter of water, then tested again within just a few minutes and there was a 10% difference in what it said was my BF%. Not accurate.
