Sunny's In The US -- 2006
This journal will chronicle at least the next few months of my fitness odyssey. Now that I'm home from Iraq, I can take full responsibility for every workout I miss, every ounce of unhealthy food I put in my mouth, and every inch the scale slides to the right instead of to the left. That's empowering, honestly, to realize how much control I now have over my life, as opposed to when I was dependent on my unit to give me free time, the dining facility to cook something edible, and the scale at the gym tent to be correctly calibrated. Whoo hoo! I love this country.
My Stats:
Age: 23
Height: 5'8.5
Weight: 155
BF%: ~20, given the way my clothes fit (that may be an odd statement, but I was a lightweight rower for several years and I know how my body looks at different bodyfat percentages...I'm not below 20, but I'm not much above it either. As soon as I get a measuring tape or a bodyfat scale, I'll let you guys know for serious)
My Goals:
1) Run in a half marathon in April or May -- either the Virginia Beach Half April 15th or the Potomac Run May 7th...depends on my schedule.
2) See my 6-pack. I have the first two, now I want the set.
That's pretty much it...I want to start small, as I'm still adjusting to being home. It's a HUGE culture shock after a year in the desert. It's so humid here! God! I just went on a 30 minute run and I thought I was going to die. I'm sweating a lot more than I'm used to.
My Plan:
As I'm focusing on getting my running endurance up, I'm going to cut back a little on the weights. I was planning on doing that anyway, as my body needs a break after the brutalization I gave it in the desert. 6 days a week in the weightroom...eek! I read somewhere you're supposed to periodize how you train anyway, so without further ado:
Weight Workouts: 3 full-body lifts a week until the race. I will focus on compound movements and plyometrics to help with leg speed and power.
Cardio Workouts: I'm using a half-marathon training plan that I got off the runner's world website. We will see how that goes.
Meal Plan 1 cheat day a week. 1800 cals as a baseline, 1600 on off days and 2000 on lift days, with 2200 cals on the day I do my long run.
So, what do you all think?
Sunny
PS -- I owe you pictures & measurements...both will be forthcoming, but my digital camera and measuring tape are still on the boat coming from Iraq. I'll post a few pictures when I go home for break.

Thanks for the well-wishes, girls...I really appreciate them.
Megin -- I'd love to do the Virginia Beach one, but right now I can't commit to anything until I see what our training schedule will look like for the next couple of months. It's rare for us to work on the weekends stateside, but stranger things have happened.
Arose -- Just for you, I changed it.
Ms Barb -- I know. I love piccies myself, even when they are of me, so I'm really feeling this lack of a digital camera. I'll make up for it in a couple of weeks when I go home. My parents' camera is nicer than mine, anyway.
Mizone -- No, I'm still in the Army, but we're on a light duty schedule for the next few months as we reintegrate to living stateside. After a year in Iraq, we can use the downtime.
Lou, Kris, Vanessa, Silly, Emma-Leigh, SB_Cali, Frankee, Miranda & Sherdi, thanks for posting and following along. I'll try to be relatively entertaining.
So here are my workouts from the past couple of days:
Monday: 40 minutes of cardio -- 20 on the stepper, 20 running
Tuesday: AM: Weights, PM: HIIT (5 min wu, 20 min HIIT, 5 min cooldown)
I'm definitely not doing cardio in the afternoon ever again...or at least not HIIT. The weather here is too different from what I'm used to...I seriously thought I was going to die doing my sprints up and down my street in this humidity. I also didn't record my weights workout, but I have a food/workout notebook now so I'll treat you guys to my specific workouts starting tomorrow.
I don't think I'm going to make it to the gym today -- I'm helping Current Crush pick up his TV this evening, and I'll be in a dental appointment all day. (That's the army -- hurry up & wait. They decided to make a dental appointment for 200 people on the same day...at a single clinic. Wow.) Since I'm taking today off, I'll probably move today's workout to Sunday. Or, if my body needs more rest, I'll just have two off days this week.
later girls!
Sunny

Oh good lord.
Alecia, I am NOT that bad! (okay, maybe I sort of am)
Current Crush is also Older Crush -- he's my best friend, who I've been totally in love with the entire year. He was my...ugh, how cheesy do I want to get here?...anchor while we were in Iraq. He kept me sane. And, consequently, I've been head over heels for him since...oh...we met.
Anyway, he's 6'1, 195-ish, brown hair & blue eyes, adorable. I will of course keep you all updated. I'm helping him tonight because he bought a Monster Man TV (50 inch projection HDTV) and doesn't have a car big enough to transport it. Whoo hoo for my Xterra, right? He's buying me dinner as a thank you.
Seriously yall, am I that boy crazy?

Home, sweet home! Welcome back Sunny. I've enjoyed reading your posts of old and glad you started a new journal I can follow along with.
I agree with Ms. Barbs- we need some piccies. Of Mr. 6'1 blue eyes, that is. Have fun at dinner tonight!

Okay, if you spend 11 hours with a guy, help him set up his entertainment center, play video games, eat both lunch & dinner, go to the mall, pick out snack food & have him buy your favorite cereal ("you'll be crashing at my place a lot, and you'll want breakfast") & diet coke (he doesn't drink diet coke) to keep at his place...that's a really good sign, right?
Even if he doesn't put the moves on you?
*sigh*
I hate guys.
