Hi guys - I decided to post here for anyone that might have some experience to share or has questions in regards to High Intensity Training.
HIT is by far the best way to train specifically for the Natural Bodybuilder (if there is any out there - lol/jk)
I am periodically going to post some of my training ideas here and also will start recording Video (in High Def Format!) captured during my own HIT workouts here in my facility in Vegas. The Clips will hopfully be available on bb.com soon as will be featured as series of Videos that will demonstrate some of the techniques and things I learned over the years.
I hope that I can help some of you with my experience.

Thx man!
I currently am trying out some new programs based on HIT. I am training a little more frequent then before but am only doing 1 set per exercise/per muscle - training each muscle every 3-4 days - I wanna see how my body responds to this more frequent HIT approach and will be filming my progress during the next 4 weeks...here is a sample of my upper body routine:
1.Incline Press (smith machine
2.Side Raises (dumbell seated)
3. Reverse grip pulldown
4.Seated Rows
5.Dips (with IRONGRIP Vest/www.irongrip..com)
So far I have completed 5 workouts like that and have been able to raise the weight and reps each time! - my reps are extremely slow (4/4 cadence) and I dont wait around after a set is done and go right into the next exercise. My entire program is done in less then 15 mins - then followed by some cardio since my fat ass at the time def needs to get leaner - lol

No I train every other day switching from upper to lower body wrokouts
day1 upper
day2. rest
day3.lower
day4.rest
day5.upper....repeat cycle
I have use the rest day to assure complete systemic reccovery and switch upper and lower workouts -so far I have been making great progress..getting stronger each workout by a few reps.
MR
p.s I might add some pre-exhaust exercises to chest and back soon in order to get more intensity going - this should be "fun"

Oarsome physique man! Just wondering did you use HIT to build up the majority of your mass?

finally another natural pro on the board with some great experince, jsut wondering like mad said did you build up all your size and mass with hit routines or some other routine at the begining. In my opinion being natural is the only way to go I think that like layne nortons show seeing how you train and a different approach to natural training would be good to see. Hell, I wish you could train me and help me along with my bulk to 205.

Good question!
No I did not - I spend 2 years training like most guys do - 12-15 sets per muscle 2x per week and made some pretty ok results - I was 16 at the time and of course recovered a lot faster due to the natural high test levels
After around 2 years my progress stopped. Ended up not making any significant gains for a long time - then adjusted my training to lower volume (not HIT but lower then usual) and start making progress again - that lasted for about another few years until I had privilege to meet Mike Mentzer in Venice, Ca.
I was pretty frustrated at the time and wanted to compete in some of the first All Natural Musclemania's - took 3rd in my first MM and then decided to pay Mike to train me - Mike took me from 195lbs natural to 225 within less then 6month! - all my workouts were brutal..many times so brutal that I threw up after -lol
It all paid off in the end and I will never go back to volume training thats for sure.
My next contest will be June 22nd - Superbody Miami Pro Divison. I will be competing at my best shape ever!

He was an advocate of HIT. 1 set per body-part, full body workouts 2-3 times a week with a 4/4 cadence on each exercise. His workouts only last about 15-20 minutes tops. www.DonLemmon.com
Have you always used a slower rep speed?I had all the normal teenage fantasies..cars, girls, money, blow. Then my parents left for a week, and all my fantasies came true!

Good to have you on board Markus and I look forward to your posts and vids. I am trying to reorganise my own HIT routine at present. I also generally use x1-2 set per exercise/muscle max and have experienced my best results with this. A recent session was as follows:
1: Shoulder press - drop set (smith) with x3 drops
2: BB shrugs
3: Machine laterals (drop set):
4: Pre-exhaust: Pec-dec > weighted dips
All done with minimal/no rest in-between and to-failure. Took 16 mins and heart-rate was 144bpm by the end. Great cardio as well as muscular workout.
At present I am doing a 3 way split with back done on a seperated day and then legs, but I have been thinking about doing an upper/lower body split as you have mentioned. I do have concerns just regarding ading back into the upper body session above as I dont want to increase the volume too much per session, and also I start to run out of steam!
Out of interest have you found the two-way split (i.e. upper/lower) to be the most productive in terms of recuperative support?
And have you found that allowing the entire upper/lower body muculature to have complete rest via this split (as such is usually involved indirectly in splits that involve other upper body parts for example) to sufficiently off-set the increased frequency of training said muscles groups incurred by the two-way as opposed to a three or four way split?

Mr.intesity, Ive been looking at hit training for a while now but never actually dove in and tried it. Ive been training since I was 16 and went from 6ft 150 pounds, to 6 ft 194 pounds since then (now 20 years of age), and iam looking to bulk to 210 pounds by the end of march then cut slightly during april and may, but not too much. Do you think a solid hit routine with a solid diet would help me acheive my goals, and what type of hit routine would you recommend?

Hey bud - I totally think you will love HIT and will greatly progress from it. How much you will gain is all up to your genetics of course. I would start off with a simple split like this:
Chest/Shoulder/Triceps - Legs/ABS - Back/Biceps
(*insert 1 rest day in between each workout)
Choose around 2-3 exercises per muscle and perform only 1 set to positive failure - slow and controlled of course.
Take notes on each workout and try to move up in reps and weight each time.
Hope that gives u and idea.
Also,I can be reached o IM - if you need me to customize a routine for you ok.

Hey bud
I have only done the upper and lower split for about 3 weeks now - it seems to me that am getting stronger each workout - kinda too soon to really give u guys any feedback on it. I like the routine so far - I do however am going to experiement with different routines and will post that on my site as well.

Just checked out his site. Did not find anything about HIT except 3 thousand ads for supplement sales - lol
I have not always trained slow reps but for most of the time. I am still kinda experiementing with some faster reps (positive) at heavier weights to stimulate fast twitch fiber here and there. But for the most part yes I always have done my reps slow and controlled.

His routines and his HIT training is in his books. He always does full body workouts and only 1 exercise per body-part, with always a 4/4 cadence. He suggests to workout 5 times every 2 weeks, basic Mon/Wed/Fri for week 1 and Mon/Thurs for week 2. He also says to do cardio directly after your workout for only 12-15 min tops, never any more. Basically HIIT cardio, trying to beat how far you run each time you run for your 12-15 minutes.
Just wandering if you use this basic principles as well in your HIT training. How long have you been training with HIT?
Thanks for your time bro.I had all the normal teenage fantasies..cars, girls, money, blow. Then my parents left for a week, and all my fantasies came true!

Been doing HIT since 1995 when I met Mike at Golds in Venice,CA. I have mostly done the 3 day a week "ideal routine" which is how I made most of my gains I think. His training seems real similar to what Arthur Jones prescribed - so I am def not against it. The cardio are also great. I like doing shorter mor intense (20mins) sessions sometimes up to 2x a day to get ripped - keeping my carbs higher and making sure I train HIT to not waste any fuel - it works best! - has gotten me under 3.7 percent bodyfat once and will do it again this year for sure!

Hey MR good to have you on board. I've been sing HIT for some time now and I gotta agree with you, best way I've ever trained. I've been using Mentz'ers "ideal" routine. What were some of the different routines you've used? I've been following the ones out of his books....I am thinking about going back to his "most productive routine" but I do like the upper lower split too, which I've never done before I sent you an email.......ask anyone around here and they'll probably tell you I'm one of the biggest HIT advocates lol.............
have a few q's on diet too....i'm going to compete this year so any help would be great.........:PI eat to failure.

Great to have you here, Markus, and would also like to see any videos you can post. You've obviously done very well training HIT style.
