    Mouth sores and B-vitamins

    Hi all,

Been making great progress on my workout/diet program. Now I've run into a problem with mouth sores that have in the past been associated with taking vitamins. I believe this is a Vitamin B deficiency symptom. I know that if you take too much of one B vitamin it gives you a deficiency in another. Here's what I take:

    Whey protien
    Glutamine
    Cheap multi-vitamin

    at night:
    Zinc
    Magnesium
    B6
I have discontinued the B6 and multi-vitamin but still have a bit of a problem, or maybe the mouth is just healing slowly.

How can I get a balanced B-complex intake that won't screw up my body? Brewers yeast? Do you think the B6 could have caused this problem?

    Thanks.
    Courage!!!!!

I'm not mush of an authority on supplements of any sort, but this might be relevant info, straight from the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy:

    http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual/se...hapter3/3a.htm

It probably won't answer your question directly, so read or disregard as you see fit.

    gbat...

Add some extra Vit C....works great to heal up sores, especially gums and mouth. Take 500mg twice a day and it should help alot. And get back to taking a good multivit. You need that with the stress you put on your body with workouts.

I agree with Trish. I take 1000mg of vitamin C a day & it really helps with the mouth sores & definitely seems to ward off colds. I used to get those mouth ulcers a lot -- never seem to any more.

You might also try supplementing with the free-form amino acid L-Lysine. It works very well to suppress the cold sore virus.

In addition, instead of taking just one form of B, try taking a B Complex form so you are getting some of each. They tend to work better in balance.

help for most mouth sores and problems

I have used a product called Cuprident it is a natural toothpaste and rearranges the bacteria in your mouth without destroying it. You can buy it and learn about it at http://www.cuprident.com it also helps with gingivitis and an overall healthy mouth. they actually use it to help with mouth sores from radiation for cancer patients going through radiation.

Cold sores aren't the same as mouth ulcers. Cold sores are part of the herpes virus family. I believe the original poster was refererring to mouth ulcers.
