    strained hip flexor

i recently strained a muscle in my hip flexor area.. haven't been to the trainer yet, comes to school wednesday. Any advice on best way to heal or speed recovery time? I can't really take time off because I'm in bball season and need to play. I've been icing and heating 20/20, end with ice.

Massage, see physiotherapist if possible, ice more frequently, do hot-cold water intervals while in shower. Dont stretch it.

Def. dont stretch it. My coach made me stretch mine senior year and it porbably added 3 weeks to the injury. Ice it and relax it as much as possible. Also freeze some water in a small paper cup, once its frozen peel the paper cup off of it and use the ice block to massage the area. Helped me a lot.

this is nearly impossible to diagnose over the internet without being able to actually feel the area to see which muscle in particular is affected...i'm a phsyical therapy grad student and believe me when I say that you need to see someone quickly. This type of injury can be a huge pain b/c you constantly use your hip flexors throughout the day and they do not get adequate rest while you are on the move. Ice and heat are your friends for the time being but if you see a physical therapist they will bring ultrasound and massage into the picture which will help you out tremendously.

Get it looked at immediately. I strained both of mine, kept playing, and now 3 1/2 years later, they are seriously f-ed up.
