Exclamation ::URGENT!!::Pregnancy Test - Please Help

I know this has nothing to do with bodybuilding and I am very sorry but I am looking for some answers and I believe a woman is the only person who can help..

To start off my girlfriend has Ovarian Cysts. Recently she has been abit more sick and she says she has been having pains in her ovaries. Now just today she took a pregnancy test, one she purchased at a pharmacy i believe. She tested 2 times with the same one and than she purchased another and the same result showed up (this was all in the same nite). It said she is pregnant. Now the reason I am asking this is because her period is late around 1 week maybe more bit since she has cysts she does not know when to expect her period; so she took the Pregnancy test.

Now my question: Is it possible that the Pregnancy test is wrong due to the fact that she has Ovarian Cysts. I believe cysts raise your harmone levles and I read somewere that having Ovarian cycts could effect a pregnancy test. I am in abit of need here. What do you guys think about this situation, is the test reading Positive wrong, because of her Ovarian Cysts?

Thankyou I really appreciate all of your help.

The only way you will know is to get an ultrasound, which would show a sac in her uterous if she is indeed pregnant, or have her blood drawn every 48hrs to see if the hormone levels are doubling. I get ovarian cysts like clockwork and have taken many many negative pregnancy tests and 4 postive ones and all 4 times I indeed was pregnant. Here is a link but I think if she is in a great deal of pain then you may want to get her looked at.

I have heard of it before, so it is possible, but the only way you're going to know for sure is to see a Dr. If she explains that she's diagnosed with cysts, or goes to the Dr who diagnosed her, they'll probaly do an ultrasound and that will either confirm that she's pregnant, or that it's just hormones from the cysts. Also with pain in the ovary area you can't rule out ectopic. I wish I had a definite yes she is, or no she isn't. The only thing I can tell you is to see a Dr to know for sure.

Thankyou very much, you helped alot. I just wish I had a true answer. Do you know if I took her to a random clinic and not her Gyno if they would give her an ultrasound? She does not have a gyno as of now.

Like planned parenthood? I honestly don't know. You could possibly try the ER if she's having pain and has a history of female problems. Sorry for sharing way too much info here, but the first time I miscarried I went to the ER with pain and they sent me up to the OB floor and did an U/S to see what was going on. Good Luck and please keep us updated, and I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.

NO. If a test says it's positive, then it's positive.

Home pregnancy tests check for a hormone called HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin... in case you are curious.) This hormone is ONLY created by pregnancy. I'm guessing what your friend has is PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome), and that will not give you a positive pregnancy test.

When you say she tested with the same test... do you mean she tested with the same BRAND of test? Or like, she peed on stick, it turned positive, then she peed on the same stick. Because once you pee on it once, it's done. Don't use that test again. Also, if it wasn't positive right away (within the allotted time limit) and she checked it and it was positive like 30 minutes later... well those, my dear, are called evaporation lines and do NOT constitute a positive pregnancy test.

Someone suggested an ultrasound... I don't think anything is going to show up this early. If she goes to the doc, they will either have her pee in a cup and basically do the same version of a home pregnancy test or they will draw blood and check for HCG levels in her blood.

As far as the ovarian pain and a possible ectopic... yeah, that is a possibility. And that's also not something to mess around with.

    Good luck to your friend.

    HCG without Pregnancy

Question: I have just been told that I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. I thought I was pregnant. I had blood work done and my HCG level was 508, which was a perfect indication of where I thought I was in pregnancy. I was then told that I was never pregnant and that the cyst mimicked pregnancy. Is that possible? How could the hormone could be in my blood if I wasn't pregnant?

Answer: Certain types of ovarian cysts or tumors -- in particular, one called dysgerminoma -- can produce the hormone HCG, the hormone measured with pregnancy tests. HCG can also be produced by an ectopic pregnancy -- one that attaches in the abdomen, ovary or fallopian tube. HCG-producing ovarian tumors are best removed surgically.

I also read that having Ovarian Cysts can effect a Pregnancy test. It said this on the box. It clearly says that Ovarian cysts can produce the hormone HCG.

From what I know it is very hard to get pregnant when you have Ovarian cysts, am I right? She is having pains in here ovaries and the weird thing is that being pregnant and have Cysts give off same symptoms.

I don't ever even enter this section but noticed the title.

Swami unless you have the medical training to diagnose your girlfriends problem, which you do not, then take her and have her checked out by a competent practitioner as suggested earlier. Ovarian pain can be all sorts of things but nothing you should take a chance or wild guess on.

You can argue about her being pregnant or having a false reading all you want but the bottom line is she should go to a Doctor and be checked out properly.

Ok... well I can admit when I'm wrong.

I'm wrong. LOL! I think those type of cysts though are fairly rare. Has she been told what kind she has, or just that she has them?

But seriously, it may be difficult to get pregnant with PCOS, but it's not impossible. If she is having ovarian pain, thinks she is a week late, had intercourse, and has a positive pregnancy test... well, it's not looking like things are in her favor.

Best to get it checked by a professional. *hugs*

I agree and that is the first thing I will be doing. She has been to the gyno numerous times for ovarian cysts and she was on birth control to help out but now she is off due to some personal reasons and she says she feels as if she has a cysts again ...I will bring her to the doc as soon as possible.. Thankyou

My sister has poly-cystic ovaries syndrome and she did indeed get pregnant. The doctor did tell her that it is harder to conceive but obviously its possible. You have already received great advice in here and I would follow though with it. Whether she is pregnant or not she should be looked at for the pain.

If she's having pains, she needs to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY, because people with cysts have a very high incidence of tubal pregnancy.
