New Years Resolution? **** that. I don’t need to set new goals based on the changing of a calendar year. This is my life and my body – and I’ll do what I want when I want. My body doesn’t know what day of the week it is, or year. My goals right now are they same as they always have been, and any new goals I have are created when I decide to make them.
I’m going to be strong. I’m going to be lean and mean. I’m going to be smart and sharp. The world doesn’t sit around waiting for us, and it certainly doesn’t hand out freebies. If we want something, we have to grab it – just reach out and snatch it. Anything and everything you desire, dream of, or salivate over can be yours. In fact, it’s already yours – but half of us are too lazy and unwilling to raise our hands and jump off the ground to grasp it.
I’m going to sweat and bleed. I’m going to swear and grunt. I’m going to hate life and lay in bed while unable to move. Food will be my energy, these forums and my log will be my outlet. The mirror and the number of notches on my belt will be my motivation. And the amount of weight I throw into the air will be my exhilarating reward.
As my body transforms I will cause all females to drool. Their knees will buckle and their heart will race by my mere appearance. Men will cry with envy as they see me walk all over their strength and conditioning. I will be faster and more powerful than anyone in my gym.
I am standing up and taking what is mine.

And when I learn how to pose, and after this year... oh yeah, it's gonna be nice.

My resolution is pretty much the same as the resolution that everyone comes up with for the new year. Lose weight. However, unlike some people who decide that's what they want to do, and never work at it, I realistically made this resolution at the beginning of last semester and began to put different pieces of the puzzle in place the whole time. This semester has started and in the first week I've put it all together and plan on sticking with it the entire year. In even a week I can already tell that I'm making progress, and that I've set myself up to succeed.
The motivation that I continue to look into to keep pushing myself comes from back in my sophomore year of high school (about 6-7 years ago). I was morbidly, morbidly obese. Much more overweight than I am now. I had no self esteem and only a few friends due to the lack of that self esteem. I ate as badly as you could eat, and I had never lifted weights before in my life at this point. The most active I ever was involved playing some basketball. I decided it was time to turn things around, but I didn't know how, so I began to starve myself, nearly to the point of death.
I lost over 200 pounds and went from the 400s to the 200s in the span of less than a year. I was hospitalized and don't even remember a lot of things that happened to me. Once I recovered I gained back much of the weight, and while I'm near 300 pounds now (I don't weigh myself much if at all anymore) so I could be over that mark now since I've been working out a lot and adding muscle, I'm determined to cut down and do it the right way.
Any time I think about quitting, I remember how hating the way I looked almost killed me, and that gives me the motivation to continue. So for me, it's less of a resolution and more of a promise to myself. I'll continue to do it the right way, even when I get discouraged. I use this site as a way of encouragement, and the success that I see other people obtaining helps fuel my desire to have that success as well.
Even if I don't win this contest, I enjoy sharing my story, because even if the memories aren't that great, remembering those days helps me push myself.
