Torn Cartlige. What can i do?

Ive torn my cartlige along the Laterall side of my knee in a couple of spots. Exercise i wanna know what to do to get "ripped". I am happy with my size on my upper body and I dont want to get any bigger across shoulders, arms etc. and just shape my chest but particularly want to burn the fat around the abs. im at about 10-11% BF but want to drop so abs and really showing all the time. Without cardio (Cant run, Ride or swim) and only doing weights is there any routine that would be able to get me down or am i going to have to wait until 6 weeks after surgery. Also what supplements may assist? and how often do you recommend to do weights? im currently doing Mon, Wed, Fri. Should i add another session or two in there?

If you have torn cartilage you shouldn't be doing anything involving that joint. Unlike a lot of other structures in your body cartilage doesn't grow back and a physician can't replace it will anything else, once its gone, its gone. I would definitely wait till after surgery because losing that cartilage is most like going to present problems further down the road (like arthritis). In regards to losing body fat it will be hard without being able to do cardio because your metabolism will drop but eat very lean and healthy foods and take a look at Hydroxycut for a supplement.

    Hey,
I tore my right knee ACL and the lateral and menial meniscus and had to get a reconstructive surgery on my knee. I had the surgery done on July 22 2007 and here I am still recovering. Im just wondering how long more should I wait before I can start running. I have gained more than 40 lB since my injury due to lack of any form exercise and moved from 260 lB to 300 lB. What is the best way for me to get in shape? should I do bodybuilding or should I try to lose all the fat I have gained before stating to work out?

Thats a hell of an injury. I would make sure to talk to your doctor or physical therapist about running but there are many other ways to build your cardio back up that hopefully won't bother your knee too much. Upper body bike is a great work out that will help train your upper body and get you breathing hard but also look to things that reduce impact like biking or an eliptical while being sure to not over do anything with your knee. You could also try pool workouts like swimming or running in the water. If you do start lifting I would go more sets with higher reps to help build up your metabolism to help you lose that extra 40. Hope that helped. Let me know if you want anymore.
