Anyone do crossfit?
I tried to do a crossfit workout today and I thought I would die. Does anyone else do this? The videos on the web sites are nuts. Those girls are so freakin strong.

I would LOVE to do Crossfit, unfortunately there are no classes in Christchurch! Emma-Leigh is my trainer, and she gives me conditioning circuits that are similar, lots of Tabata style stuff, Burpee Chin Ups, etc - I also wear a Weight Vest which intensifies the effect, but one of my dearest dreams is to actually do it properly!
Emma-Leigh has a great Crossfit video on her Bodyspace page http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/Em...=155722#155722
I think you should keep going!

Crossfit question
I having been following crossfit off/on (injuries permitting) for about 3 1/2 years. For all around conditioning (cardio, anaerobic, strength, power) it cannot be beat. If the gym where you currently training is not equiped to perform crossfit workouts, train at home. Build your own crossfit gym. On the crossfit web site, do a search on their message board for substitutes for various exercises if you do not have the appropriate equipment. For example, if you do not have access to a 15 foot rope for rope climbs, do towel pullups (one pullup for each foot). If you do not have a kettlebell, use a dumbbell.
According to your profile, you are 5 feet tall and slightly over 100 lbs. You would be ideal for crossfit since many of the WODs contain bodyweight exercises done for time.
I hope this helps. Best of luck on your fitness goals.

that's hilarious, the dying part, but typical when you're starting out. it doesn't get any easier(relatively) as you get stronger either...since most of the workouts are as fast as you can or as many rounds as you can. I do the workouts just about everyday. You do get used to the getting winded part, and the feeling of pukie goes away too after a couple weeks. I occassionally get the urge to puke still even after two years of doing it, but i can't get away from doing crossfit. I'm in the best shape of my life. Need any tips, etc pm me. i'm a certified crossfit trainer.

I myself am just starting to get into crossfit training and I have to say it is intense stuff. I love it.
I live about 45 miles east of Nashville does anyone know where the closest crossfit gym would be?

yeah I did my first workout last night and it was intense couldn't breathe after round 2. But I have no doubts that this workout will make me stronger then ever and my body fat will start falling off!
I pretty much have my own gym at home and am equipped to do most of the exercises but I am really hoping to find a gym close to my house so I can get trained properly. Plus it makes it easier to stay motivated do that kind of workout.

So, what I am understanding here is that crossfit is a series of 2-3
different excersises done as many times in a certain amount of time.
How many rounds do you do?
how about an example of one workout.

Not exactly. It can be as little as one exercise per workout to 9-10 exercises per workout. In some workouts you do a certain number of reps as fast you can or you do as many rounds as you can in time. Or you just do maybe 2 or 3 rounds and that's it. Every workout is different and I can't imagine the possible number of combinations.
My crossfit workouts consist of 5-7 mins of warmup then anywhere from 5-20 of workout then a 5-10 min cooldown. I do a 3 on 1 off. I usually do the group crossfit workouts but when I can't I go to the crossfit website and do that workout on my own.
A sample workout would be: after warmup - Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 mins of the following:
15 burpees
10 pullups
10 back rows
15 thrusters
400 m row
25 box jumps
I just made this up off the top of my head but that's a sample workout. Some workouts, for instance yesterdays, were just 50 burpees with an extra 1' reach on the jump. (you have to look up the exercise).
So my workout aside from warmup took me 5:34. I threw on an 800 m run at the end.
Its definitely intense - I do a weight workout 1x a week, the rest of my workout days are crossfit.

I feel ya...
I did one crossfit workout, almost puked by mid-second round, and then limped for 4 days due to the WORST DOMS I have ever had in my quads and inners thighs. Walking down stairs was impossible!
Use sparingly~its lethal!!

I've been doing Crossfit for about a year now and do their workouts on almost a daily basis. I started out flabby and within just a couple months I had cut my BF% by half and my conditioning and strength went up x10.
How those legs feeling Ladycole?! hehehe

I'm SO excited to do this!! I'm doing a lot of supersetting and endurance work right now and I'll be in the woods for six weeks this summer, hiking and climbing...I did purchase some heavy resistance bands and sandbags so I can keep up training. But I still know I won't be anywhere NEAR that level when I head to Fairfax in August and join Crossfit there! I'm hoping it'll prepare me well for boxing...I've talked to a couple other people here and they suggested it.

I agree, this type of workout would be awesome for boxing conditioning.

So you are going to join the crossfit gym in Fairfax? Fantastic! Let us know what you think of the workouts. My first workout was "Fran" back in July of 2004. I didn't see what the big deal was with crossfit or the "Fran" WOD. OMG, I completed the workout in 23 minutes but nearly passed out. At the time I was 40 years old and at 6' 1" weighed approx. 220 lbs. I was fairly strong (510 lb deadlift) but not well conditioned. Now, at age 44 and at a bodyweight of 202 - 203 lbs, my best time is 5 minutes 40 seconds. What a difference in my overall health.

Docdru, Yes, my urge to throw up with the crossfit workouts may eventually go away, but my urge to throw up on you may never.

Weell-a...
If we just did the competition, altering distances, based up leg-length calculations and evening , I would've beat your time.
I'm just sad it's hard for you to understand basic math and equality principles--want me to send you a workbook? All My treat!

Named after Trevor win'E, killed in iraq.
Its to buy special cooling vests for troops in Iraq. You put together a team of four; costs $200 total or $50 for each team member to get in on it. ($200 buys the vest).
As a team you do 300 pullups, 400 pushups, 500 situps and 600 squats. That doesn't mean everyone on the team does 300, you split it up among team members.
