Post Is it possible to gain muscle while losing fat?

I've been at college for a semester eating ****ty cafe food and not going to the gym. I didn't watch what I ate for around 4 months and ate dorm food such as pizza a few times a week. That coupled with zero exercise resulted in me gaining a decent amount of fat for the first time in my life. I'm probably like 15-20 pounds overweight now. Anyways, before this crappy college lifestyle started I started getting into weight lifting/body building about a month before the semester began. I really want to get back into body building again but I'm not sure where to start. I'm in way different (worse) shape then I was before college started and don't really know what to do diet wise. Before college I was eating around 120-150 grams of protein a day and lifting every other day. I'm just wondering if I should begin consuming 120-150 grams of protein a day again and is it possible to gain muscle while losing fat? I'm very confused right now.

As a recovering @$$0h0l!C I am tempted to fall off the wagon and tell you to post this over in the steroid section because those guys know more about protein synthesis.

    _OK_I'M_BETTER_NOW_

No one really knows for sure how much protein your body needs and anybody who takes a guess without knowing your age, body composition, activity level, Weight, goals, etceteras is just blowing smoke from the old smokehole region.

Yes, beginners and those using AAs often gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. There are also some tricks of the trade to do this. There are some great stickies here on fat loss, and over in Nutrition there are all kinds of threads on protein consumption.

    Anyhow, start where you are

AAS means roids - people taking steroids can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Beginners can do this. Sometimes experienced trainers can with the right diet and clever supplementation.
