help a guy to help some female friends
ladies, I will admit that I did not search too long and I do not know much about the female use of weight loss/energy supplements. I am a guy and proponent for weight loss via diet/cardio. BUT I have a couple of friends who are female who are always bitching about wanting to lose weight. I have been asked to help them. I tried to get them to do the whole cardio/diet thing but that is not going too far with them. We are all college students so their free time is not that readily available. They are both SET on taking meds to help them lose weight. The way I see it, they are going to do it so why not try and get them the best one. They both have a diet that is not horrible, but they know what they need to do and are willing to cut out some of the junk. They will realisticly work out 2-3 times a week. I feel that a little soy/whey protein, slightly less carbs, a multivitamin, water instead of soda, and a little workout will help them. Both can lose about 5-10 pounds. Neither of them are fat, yet they both can trim a little and help their self esteem. They ARE going to take something- believe me here- so the talks of telling them to just try a diet/cardio plan is futile. I am thinking of a basic EC stack- what would be the best one for them?

i'm sorry, I had to laugh when I read that the girls are all college students and yet "FREE TIME" is somehow UNAVAILABLE!!!!
lol.. some people on the boards work 60 hours a week and still find this rare "FREE TIME" to show up to the gym and eat right..
Free time for a college student comes by the TON..
Please, i took 18 hours some semesters in college and I found PLENTY of time to dedicate to working out and eatting right..
I'm guessing "partying" and "hanging out' and "movies" are not classfied as free time..
EC stack is NOT the answer.. They do not have the mentality to go very far with the lifestyles they lead right now.. No fat burner in the world can help in that department.

I'd love to have the free time I had when I was taking a full credit load and working 30+ hours per week.

there's no magic pill. a lot weight loss supps are meant to be taken in conjunction with a good diet and exercise.

Couldn't said it better myself. Let's see...I'm a full time student (18hrs+) AND a full time parent of 3 children PLUS I manage to workout 5 days a week. No pills are needed just solid efford and determination.

Thanks a ton .. And no I don't really think this girl is really up for taking supps, she just wants a good diet and i'll help her out with a routine
It's not different IMO. The total caloric intake is different because females are smaller. I think a good place to start would be this thread right here:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=659486
There's nutrition advice as well as workout advice. A female that isn't wanting to gain massive amounts of muscle doesn't need the full blown PWO shake like a male does but she should focus on eating 5 to 6 balanced meals with good carbs, low fat protein and good fats every 3 hours or so. It really depends on what her goals are and her metabolism ,etc. I would say the first place to start with anyone is to eliminate all processed carbohydrates which college students seem to eat a lot of. I know cafeteria food isn't the greatest but you try to make some wise decisions like chosing the chicken salad instead of the cheese fries

No time???
Well.... we are given the same number of hours per day which is given to Abrham Lincon, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and all those ppl.... so it could be a joke to say "No Time"....

Well, personally I think you should not trouble yourself with worrying about their weight loss...If they really WANT to lose the weight they'll find out how to on their own. It sounds to me like they're not really up for the hard work that it takes to lose the pounds... Taking some pill isn't going to work that well for them. Personally, I've NEVER taken any pills that actually helped me lose weight. There are some that could possibly help you gain muscle but honestly, I don't think there are any real good pills that will make u lose weight with out any effort in the gym and etc. Let them figure things out and dont bother yourself with their low self esteem. If they want it bad enough, they'll get into it. Basically, they know their daily routines and schedule better than anyone else so they'll be able to come up with what works for them the best. If I were you, I'd tell them to forget about pills, they don't work. IF they really want to lose weight it's gonna have to be eating healthy, and exercise...good cardio exercise is best.
Good luck to them though.

Now this girl sounds like she's willing to do what it takes, she basically just needs to remain consistant(That's been working for me for the past 2 years). Pills are never the ANSWER, and I would never reccommend them to anyone. I don't like even taking regular medicines, unless I HAVE HAVE HAVE to...hehe!
I think she should maybe just eat lesser calories. Say for example she's eating around 2000 calories a day right now, have her reduce her caloric intake by about 500 a day and also burn calories in the gym. Try to have her burn around 250 to 300 calories in the gym aside from the reduction of 500 calories perday from food. She'll be 800 calories less each day, and losing about 1.5 lbs a week most likely. She'll probably adapt to this type of lifestyle easily, especially if she's determined to going into the gym and working out
Wish her good luck for me

I manage the impossible
To the OP:
Tell them to take some responsibility for their lives and quit dinking around. If they want to be "HOT" then they have to work for it. There is no magic pill, and ANY pill that they take will put them on the roller coaster.
They WILL lose muscle tissue, thus losing weight and mass. They WILL put on more fatty tissue. They WILL regain it all as soon as they go off of their diet. If they remain on their diet, their bodies WILL rebel and they WILL go into starvation and their bodies WILL get fatter than ever before.
This is simple biological FACT.
What they are trying to do is self-destructive and ultimately self-defeating. The only way to get healthy is to eat healthy and exercise. You can lose all kinds of weight just by starving yourself. But you WILL pay for it with a vengeance later. And I don't mean 20 years down the line- though you will likely pay then, TOO. And using drugs that do little more than deplete your body is irresponsible.
If they want to lose weight, they need to MAKE time. You don't find time, you MAKE time. Otherwise, just tell them to take some dexatrim and leave you alone, because without proper balance, nothing they take will be healthy for them (weight loss pill wise).
It's all BULL****. ONLY exercise and proper nutrition can make you healthy. There IS NO magic pill.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out -because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out -because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out -because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

well i used to be in the same boat. I work 40 hours a week and i go to school for 25 hours a week. and i thought i didn't have any free time. So i've started eating the right foods and getting up to exercise for at least 20-30 mins every morning, which isn't much, but at least its a start. I even try to fit in another workout if i can in the evening if i get out of class early and weekends are usually not that busy. Maybe they can try that for a while. Any little bit can help. You can tell them to try that and if that's too much for them, then i dunno what else to say.

i noticed in the original post that the EC stack is suggested for two girls who have spent the better part of their college lives sitting on their asses in front of the couch bitchin' about men and soap-operas...
The EC stack is anything BUT basic.. For someone who has never taken Ephedrine before, they probably dont' konw what to expect. Heck, they might feel a lot, and get scared, or feel nothing, and pop 5 more..
Do they workout now? probably not.. If they dont' workout now, what magic ingredient in the EC stack (or any fat burner for that matter) will magically pick their butts off the kitchen table and chain them to the treadmill?
EC is no magic.. At best it is a highly uncomfortable way to raise your metabolism by 5%.. A high price to pay for insignificant results unless backed up with a diet and exercise regimen that is as gung-ho as the EC stack itself.

well I would like to thank all of you for your inputs. I am not going to try and defend the girls but realisticly they don't have much free time. They both work close to 50 hours a week, take full loads with school, and one of them cares for multiple special needs kids. There is no reason to argue but the fact is that they will not be able to go to the gym more than about 3 times a week. I am going to try and help them by working with their diets, getting them to do cardio 3 times a week, and have some excercises for them to do at home when they only have a few minutes. I am hoping I can get them to give me a month of hard work before they go to supplements. I will show them this post and hopefully it will make an impact.

more understandable now that you describe their situation..
I appreciate it.
But it would be irresponsible to themselves simply picking up fat burners and choking them down in hopes of losing 10lbs of fat.

Exactly... even if they DO lose 10 lbs... it won't be fatty tissue they're losing.
I wish that it was "different" for people who don't have a lot of time. But facts are facts. Our bodies work a certain way, no matter how legitimate our reasons for not having a lot of time.
If they want to be slender, they will have to MAKE time and work for it. There is no other way. I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm saying that reality is what it is. Regardless of reasonable excuses to why we don't have time.

It definitely does sound like they're busy but who isn't? And also, why are you making it your responsibility? Those three days in the gym each week need to be incredibly intense days...all out, then they might see results. If they eat right. Good luck to ya!
