    to build overall mostrous strength u really need three excercises - squat/ deads/ bench. a few power cleans and snatches dont hurt either,

    everything, if the chain has a weak link it will fail. but in order of importance, i would say that the location of a muscle in proximity to your hips is pretty accurate.

    I'd think it'd apply to each muscle~

    Core possibley influencing every muscle abit, but largley triceps for punching and explosion power.

    I'd have to agree with jack_of_all - it makes sense, considering it supports alot of muscles and is largley where the bonestructure interconnects.

    actually good punching power comes mostly from your core as well, not triceps. I think we can all pretty much say the all the muscles in your core (hips, legs, back, abs) are the most important if you want to be "powerful".

    You are only as strong as your weakest link, remember that. Who cares if you can leg press a million pounds, if your grip is weak, you won't be able to deadlift ****. Or if you can do leg extensions with 300+... who cares? You won't be able to squat well because of weak hamstrings.
