anyone here drink any alcohol on Keto

the past 3 nights Ive had 12-16 oz of low carb beer...and I notice my weight on my scale has stalled.

however I do feel like Im still burning some fat and I never really get out of ketosis.

    any expiernce with this.

I think the weight stalling could be mostly from gaining mass and offsetting the fat loss on the scale or so I hope.

real men drink spirits. so i dont know what effect beer has :P

ur best not really drinking on keto, i do occassionally and get hit alot harder. it will curb ur results ALOT. remember, 1 gram of alcohol is 7 calories, digested by ur liver.

    ur right about that.

and which means it would take place overnight since ive drank them late.

which is also the same time Id lose the most fat.

but I really love the nice edge breaker it brings.

I will limit them to a couple times per week..and on those days do an extra 20 min cardio.

WTF? it takes you a couple DAYS to get back into ketosis? I mean if you're drinking straight liquor/ 0 carbs, shouldn't you get back to it pretty quick?

Your body burn alcohol off for fuel so I guess that switches you out of Keto unless it's compeltely burned off . Then maybe another day for your body to sober up so to speak ?

correct. wen there's alcohol in the system, everything else takes a back seat, and the body digests nothing else till the booze is digested

It was Aruba after all. And it was ALOT of burbon!!

Ha, moreso the feeling of being in ketosis and not being hungover more than anything. I agree its not that I was kicked, just that I was burning off the booze first.

I drink red wine. Generally a glass or two every other night or every third night. Never kicks me out of ketosis, but probably does stall fat loss. The alcohol is used for energy before carbs and before fat.

It does take the edge off after a long day of work. And red wine may even have some modest health benefits in reasonable quantities.

I'm in a band. We party hard. I'm a chunk...do the math. It seems that I get a week or two under my belt, and then I screw up by drinking hardcore. I drink clear liquor because 1. I hate hangovers, and 2. It seems to be less detrimental to my loss/gain.

Personally, I'd say write off booze until you get to your goal. It will be extremely hard for me, but me getting in shape for my wedding is more important than having a 'fun' time on Friday night.

Wine has a lot of carbs though. Thats the only thing, cause I LOVE Wine... lol

I decided that my drink of preference on keto is a dry martini, straight up

Then a 5 a.m. run first thing no matter how I feel. 15 minutes for each martini and I am right back into ketosis.

Drinking slows down too if you think, thats "another two miles" for each drink you have

Not too many carbs at all in wine. Never enough to knock me out of ketosis which I think is the important factor...

Maybe 2 or 3g of carbs in a 4 or 5 oz glass...

Not getting out of ketosis is the ultimate goal. But it depends on what kinda wine you like. A chardonnay or zinfandel can have as many as 5 carbs per glass... and since I know I am not going to drink one glass... lol

If you really need to have a drink, which is totally understandable, then go with vodka. It's the least bad of them all.

I can get away with drinking about once a week and stay in ketosis. Obviously that's not recommended but that seems to be my tolerance. But for other people it can really screw things up.

I've been avoiding drinking, was drinking a beer or two after work which obviously wasn't helping my bodyfat situation.
Have only had about an ounce of bourbon last weekend since I start keto on the 6th of Jan. The real test will be this weekend, a big group of us are supposed to go wine tasting. I'm planning to volunteer to drive so I don't get too tempted.

I dont drink due to a condition where when I drink I break out in spots

the last spot was teledo, another one was dallas heheh

The short of it is I'm in recovery for alcoholism, So no drinking at all for me.
(clean n sober since april 10 1989 btw)
If I'm not mistaken I think that as the liver metabolizes alcohol it converts it into sugar.
Those sugar carbs are probably what will kick someone out of ketosis.

My question is always "would you drink the same caloric equivelent in soda pop?" At least with beer

Gotta be careful with this because when you are on any type of diet that is low in carbs, the alcohol hits you about 12 times faster than anyone else at the party. Anyway- for casual nights, ask for michelob ultra- i believe it has a higher alcoholic content as well as being 1 or 2 grams per bottle. Best bet that does the job is bacardi and diet. Just allow for those light beers in your daily carb allowance. If i know im going to a party where i will be drinking, ill go no more than 10 grams of carbs the rest of the day.

    Congrats bro.

Personally the only time I drink on keto is ONE low carb beer if it's my birthday. If i'm going to have a drink i'll do it on a carb up.

I had a full size glass of red wine (a nice McLaren Vale Shiraz) with my steak and spinach last night. I woke up this morning and tested moderate for ketones. I don't think it is helping my progress, for sure, but a few times a week I really enjoy it. I can handle a bit slower progress to enjoy my evenings a little bit more...

I have been staying away from drinking for almost a month now, not that I drank more than 1-3 drinks per week. last night I picked my husband up from the bar, he had ordered a gin and tonic for me (didn't have diet tonic) I drank about 1/3 and could feel it. It was way crazy!

It is my understanding that, althought alcohol stalls fat loss, it does not ultimately effect ketosis as the body treats alcohol sugars differently from the sugars we get from food. Therefore, if your having a few beers etc dont worry about ketosis so much, but be mindful that your fat loss may be taking a hit (and not to forget he cravings booze gives!). Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong

You're right that alchohol doesn't effect ketosis, but the thing you've neglected is that beer and other alchoholic beverages have carbs besides the calories that we count for alchohol. So beer is probably the worst choice as it tends to have quite a few carbs (a budweiser for example has 10.6g carb)
Gotta make sure to count those carbs as well, as they'll be treated just like any other carb source.

but thats thing tho, my understanding is that the body doesn't treat alcohol carbs like any other carb source, hence why you stay in ketosis. Forgive my ignorance, but are there other carbs in alcohol apart from alcohol carbs?

alcohol will stop ketosis..but not kick you out.

so lets say you have 2 shots of whiskey.

and it takes your body 2 hours to process this.

after the 2 hours are up...ketones will be used again.

if you drank 2 shots of whiskey and ran a mile..your body would run off ether until it was gone.

so in theory it wouldnt take long after 1 mile to be in keto again
