Chalk
I'm planning to start using some chalk on heavy deads at my gym.
I know that they're basically blocks, so how should I bring them to the gym to use? Should I carry a plastic bag around with me or should I just pre-chalk in the lockerroom?
Also, I never used any before, so how much should I put on my hands? And how long does one block usually last?
thanks

Take the chalk with you in a zip lock storage bag. Just a little goes a long way, so you don't need to take much with you. I usually chalk up by sticking my fingertips into the bag, then take them back out and rub my hands together, getting the chalk into the palms and fingers. If you do it neatly, nobody at the gym should complain. Remember, a little goes a long way...

On behalf of everybody who has worked out in a gym, I simply ask that you not make a mess and if you do please clean it up. Not everybody likes chalk nor getting that stuff all over their clothes and gear.

How do you clean up chalk, by the way?

I workout several days a week at a gym that has a tray with chalk in it. It is in the room in back with the free weights. There is something magical about chalking up before a big lift. Obviously, we wipe down the bars when we are done, but the psychological boost from chalking up is incredible.
If you just want a better grip, and your gym does not allow chalk, this site sells a product called Liquid Chalk. It comes in a bottle, and stays on your hands, so there is no mess. (Very good for the 'Fern Bar' gyms with the smoothie bars up front.) I was at a gym in Salem, Oregon a few years ago that had a sign that said "No Grunting". Oh well, I guess it takes all kinds!

*Every gym has at least one self appointed, "Head douchebag" in charge, to oversee everyone elses business, when they should be working out (and minding their own business). Seems Smokyboy here is THAT DOUCHEBAG
