    Meat and potatoes diet - why is it bad?

    Healthy mashed potatoes = potatoes + milk + eggs.
    Meat = lean chicken, beef, steak.

    Add veggies for vitamins and it seems pretty healthy...

    So, why do people always advertise the MEAT AND POTATOES man as some fat unhealthy unfit guy?

    Thats pretty much what I eat a lot of!

    First off, table sugar is not that high on the GI scale. Second, GI is not the end all of a healthy/beneficial food.

    Meat and potatoes can be an excellent diet, but most of the time the meat would be something deepfried, full of saturated fat with potatoes dripping with butter. I don't know where you heard it's bad though. As long as you eat sensibly prepared meals both meat and potatoes are an excellent part of a bodybuilder's diet.

    I don't believe the butter and saturated fat are the problems- I think the potato's, bread, sugar in the tea, and dessert are the problems.

    Potatoes are not a problem. I think it's strange that people on this board think of potatoes as a problem.

    The other things of course are bad. Not neccesarily a part of a "meat and potato diet," but they are bad (bread is arguable I suppose).

    meat and potatoes guy is generally refering to just one of the guys if ya get what im saying. Its just a saying like hes not one of those fancy dudes hes happy with meat and potatoes. ive never heard it used in the reference to being unhealthy Ive always thought out it refering to a man's man.

    I think because usually meat and potatoes ( as other said) include huge portions ( think Hungry Man) of fried or fatty meats and processed fatty potatoes with a lot of butter,etc. And NO or little vegetables. A diet with a lot of fat, saturated fat, deficient in a lot of nutrients.

    Probably no veggies, with double helpings on the meat. Have some dessert and you're good to go.

    That's pretty much the basis of my diet. Mostly meat and veggies, potatoes for my main carbohydrates.
