Ae you knowledgable of the fact that you are not World Champions if your the only country that plays the sport, such as American football. In Australia we dont call the the team that wins the Aussie Rules premiership the world champions it just is not right. Same with your basketball teams, you are not world champions it is a club competition, in fact Spain is the world champions in basketball at the moment.

Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.
"So you got fired again eh?" "Yeah, they always freak out when you leave the scene of an accident."
Spiders are like offensive linemen, the best ones do their job and you never notice them.
An obvious example of New Math.

The CFL and European leagues?
The reason those guys play in the CFL and other leagues other than the NFL is because they aren't good enough to play in the NFL. Hence, the NFL, like the NBA, is the best there is, the cream of the crop, the top tier.
Yes, there is no other challenger. Any other challenger is not even on the same level.

If September is "quite a while" then, yes, it's been real long......lol......
James Leads U.S. Squad Past Argentina to Claim Gold
LAS VEGAS, September 2, 2007 (AP) -- LeBron James put a record finish on the Americans' dominance in the desert.
James scored a team-record 31 points as the United States beat Argentina 118-81 on Sunday to win the FIBA Americas championship.
Dwight Howard made all seven of his shots and scored 20 points, and Carmelo Anthony added 16 points for the Americans, who were never challenged, while winning 10 games in 12 days and will head to Beijing next summer as one of the gold medal favorites.
The Americans averaged 116.7 points in the tournament.
The game was largely meaningless, because both teams had already clinched spots in the Beijing field by winning semifinal games Saturday. But the Americans didn't let up, remaining perfect in four Olympic qualifiers, including 7-0 against Argentina.
And here are the current FIBA World Rankings...........
1. USA
2. Argentina
3. Spain
4. Serbia
5. Lithuania

To be world champions the USSR hockey team (best players in the entire world) couldnt even beat a group of USA college athletes. You can say "nobody can TOUCH them, they are so fcuking good, thats why they are world champions" but until u play the games, how do u kno?
USA is the best in basketball by far.... Why dont we ever win world championships? You gotta play the games. If that is "absolutely retarded" because i have some facts to back up my opinion... then u are a lost cause.

O hai... how bout dem WORLD championships?
Last time i check... (ill refer you to the above quote^^^^) thats the AMERICAS. not world. AKA the entire world was not involved. They won a TOURNAMENT, but not the WORLD tournament. Fail miserably.
How about the olympics? Or other WORLD events? long time since ive seen the USA on top.
Thats like the USA in soccer winning the gold cup(which is like the US, mexico/latin countries, and canada, probably similar to this tournament for basketball)... and claiming to be world champions lol. Thats not how it works. Until the entire world is involved, you are not a world champion. No matter how elite u think a league is, until u play the games it doesnt matter.Last edited by rampagefc77; 01-11-2008 at 05:56 PM.

Just because the games happen to take place in the US doesn't mean it doesn't count as international. There are a ton of countries represented in the NBA, the best players from each country.
The only difference between the NBA and the Olympics is that players are divided by teams based onto who writes their contract rather than where they happened to be born.
The Olympics are where the best players from all leagues get together and get divided into teams to play some ball. The NBA is the league where the best players from all countries get together and get divided into teams to play some ball. There is NO difference. Both champions have every right to consider themselves world champions.

But srsly, no one can come close in American football or basketball. Everything else is definitely up for debate.

Do you srsly think there are better players in the world than Lebron, Kobe, Dwayne, Dirk, Duncan, Garnett, etc etc etc??? They may lose in the world championships or whatever but with the amount of money they're making do you think they honestly give a **** about whether they win or lose against a team made up of players you never hear of? lol.

That's what I think most foreigners don't understand about the US basketball teams. In the past decade they've been either college players or whatever pros they could get. Put a team together and wouldn't practice together until just before the tournament started.
I think in this years coming olympics the US will once again dominate in basketball. They finally put a team together with our finest players and have been practicing together for the last year.
We always thought we could be just better than everyone, without working at it, well international play has stepped up. It took a few Olympics of gettin kicked in the balls to realize, the US actually needs to put there best forward to win.

Here's a hypothetical. Let's say the Knicks became the Mexico City Knicks. Let's make up some more teams. Athens Rockets. Melbourne Mavericks. Athens Lakers. New Dehli Nuggets. You get the idea.
All these teams keep the exact same rosters they have now and the last season goes exactly as it did. Right up to the Shanghai Spurs beating the Copenhagen Cavaliers for the championship. The only difference is a whole lot of jet fuel was burned.
Is it now fair to consider the Spurs the world champions since they beat teams from other countries? Because if not, then the only difference is the fact that, again, the players are representing the logo on their jersey rather than the country they were born in. If the best in the world are gathered in one place, the winners are the world champions. I don't think it shouldn't count just because you're not playing for your country.
