I have always heard people say you should do abs every day. I have found them to be like other muscle groups though annd they need recovery days as well (though maybe not as much time) I would say if you do them every day limit it to 3 sets, but i have found about 3 times a week with around 5 sets is the winner.

As a general rule I'd train abs two to three times per week as they do need to recover like any muscle, but seem to recover faster.
However, doing brief periods (a couple weeks) of training abs everyday is a good "shock" to them if followed by some rest and resuming normal training.

Do them between sets of other exercises.

your abs need time to recover too. I vote for no, not every day.

Well infact you work your Abs during nearly every exercise. Doing them at the start of your workout can infact suffer your range of mobility and can cause muscle strains.
It all depends of course, but i perfer to shock them, one week i'll train them every day the other week i'll do 2-3 ab workouts. Don't just fall in to a routine of doing the same all the time.

Look, you can do ANY exercise for ANY bodypart ANY days of the week. It all depends on volume. Frequency is directly related to volume per workout you do.
If you give the muscle it's own day, and hit it for 45-60 minutes, you might want to keep it to once a week. If you add it into another body parts workout, and slam it for 10-20 minutes, sure.. 2-3x a week should be good. If you do it as an afterthought, maybe a lot of high rep stuff, or give it a few sets at the end of every workout; every day should be fine.
