    Question Really DENSE Carb Source

Does anybody have a good recipe for something that has a really DENSE source of low glycemic carbs? Or something containing oats like oatmeal? I also want it to be something more dry that I can take with me, like something you can make in the shape of a bar (like a rice crispy treat shape). Thanks.

Hmm ..I am not sure as far as 'constructing' a bar..but dense carbs sources are dried apricots, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, ..

Oatmeal is the best that comes to mind...perhaps barley.

You may try some low-fat granola with no sugar added. It's not exactly the lowest GI carb, but it's not horridly high (I don't think so, anyway). It's pretty dense in terms of calories and carbs. Other whole grain cereals, like Kashi Go Lean, are also high in fiber and easy to take on the go. A really dense source of carbs that's moderate GI is something like sweet potatoes/yams...you could eat a ton and not realize how many calories and carbs you're getting in.

Yeah, those foods are all good sources. But does anyone know a recipe or something that has oatmeal in it to take on the go, such as a bar form? I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I almost considered eating dry oatmeal so I just want to make it a little more edible. The granola idea is pretty good too.

Try eating half a cup of all bran (kellog's cereal), just don't eat too much 'cuz you'll fall asleep. 8 grs fiber, 14 carbs, 90 calories , low GI index. You could also try the extra fiber one. Maybe you could do bar by mixing some egg whites ( 1 or 2), oatmeal and all-brand, the cook it. Really simple.

    Power Pancakes!!

    Try these,

    1 Cup of oats
    1 1/2 cups of water
    2 scoops of protein powder

Mix oats, water and powder; stir well. Cook in frying pan until they start to brown (makes about 10 pancakes). Put them in a tub and take 'em anywhere you want!

    Hope this helps
