Using the chest fly machine seems to cause immense pain in my shoulders so I don't think I can continue doing that exercise. Is it okay to only concentrate on bench press with dumbells and barbells? I'd like a chest similar to any other chest of a fit male (two plateau's separated by a thin space in the middle).

This machine irritates my shoulders on occasion as well.
There should be away to limit the range of motion on the machine.
Try limiting the ROM, and see if that takes some unnecessary stress of your shoulders.
However, DB flys are way better IMO, and if they dont irritate your shoulders as much, I'd stick with themPain Pain Pain... then maybe some Pleasure.

Kills me too. If you grab the poles instead of the handles I find it helps a lot.
The cable machines do a much better job than the actual fly machine as they allow you to move in a more natural position, just pull up an incline bench (or just do it standing) get the stirrup handles and you're ready to go.
