I have one, it is a great starter bench if you are wanting to try home lifting. It is about the best complete setup you can get with a small budget. However the load capicity is low and the bench isn't as sturdy as a higher priced model.
However if you are benching in the 100-200 range and squating in the 150-250 range it is a great little setup for the cost.
I am just now starting to replace mine with precor and bodysolid equipment, however the XR5 is still great for my wife to use.

I'm also wanting one of these. I have the 300lb Cap Barbell olympic size weights, but I use a standard-sized bench right now. (<$30 at Wal-Mart) and I'm wondering if this would work out much better? The standard size bench is a hell of a lot tougher to use with olympic weights, and the bar tipping is common. So, is would this be a good investment?
And yes, though the guy is cut, he looks weak. I rep at 95-105 for crap's sakes. He probably maxes out at 150-175. I can do 150, so they should get a better "box model".NOW (Goals in parentheses)

I don't have olympic weights, which is why I bought the standard bar."I came out here to enjoy nature, don't talk to me about the environment". - Denny Crane

Pool_Shark, if you have a Dunhams Discount Sports or Dick's Sporting Goods near you, you can get a 300lb olympic set incl. bar on sale for $99-$119. It's a steal.
EDIT: Also, can you lower where you set the barbell? In the pictures, when it's set on flat bench, it looks like it's too high for some to reach.Last edited by Lifter Wes 3889; 03-25-2005 at 06:10 PM.

Thanks Lifter Wes,
I know about the 300 lbs olympic set, but I already have 300 lbs of standard, it just wouldn't be cost efficient to purchase another set.
Yes you can lower the barbell, just remove the bar rests and set them where you want.
You can also adjust the bench for incline and decline, and the seat has 2 positions flat and tilt, and also has, I think 3 postions for forward and backward."I came out here to enjoy nature, don't talk to me about the environment". - Denny Crane

I wish they had these in Vancouver, I would have bought that an olympic weight set, and some adjustable dbs.. Perfect setup around 300 bux.. damn.
My home gym consists of equipment ive bought over 2-3 years:
Standard Weider Weight bench from Walmart
Standard cap barbell
over 400lb in weights
2 adjustable dbs
york half power rack/sumo rack
decent treadmill, great for home for about 200bux
preacher curl stand
home made pullup bar
I really got the ultimate home gym for a 15 year old, too bad im injured right now. When my back heals up im going back at it strong, damn!!
