Got a couple of $ because my G-P died a month ago. I didn't know what to do with it so I decided to start a home gym.

The gym is for my gf & me so it's normal that I have a couple light weights in the pictures. She's a marathon runner so that's why we have a nice/new treadmill

    Treadmill approx 1600$
    Power rack 300$
    Olympic kit 2x45 2x35 2x25 4x10 4x5 2x2.5 + the 7' bar for 280$
    Swiss ball, jumping rope 20$
10lbs and 45 lbs kettle bell got both for 50$ on kijiji
Set of adjustable dumbbell 5 to 25 lbs for 40 on kijiji
Other set of cheap dumbbell (color) got it from the garbage.....
I already had my bike and the roll
    Carpet 20$ for 6 scare x2

That's the setup of what I got today.

    photo 5.JPGphoto 4.JPGphoto 3(1).jpgphoto 2.JPGphoto 1.JPG

Everything was bought from a store near Montreal that make their own custom power rack etc. No tax, lifetime warranty.

I still have a two month membership at my gym so I still have time to buy a good bench.

I'm also going to someone's place tomorrow to look at a set of 35's, 40's and 45' (dumbbell) (kijiji) for approx 0.75$/pound. I also found a crunch bench for 30$.

What do you thing of my starter kit? and i know my futon is ugly.

What are those rubber tiles like? Are they fairly solid or are they a bit spongy?

spongy for sure but I like it. At home I train shoeless (except for squat because I have a hard time to keep my weight in front because of this carpet).

I think I will buy the hard one for the cage and the rubber one everywhere else. 20$ for 6 square is a good deal

They can help dampen the noise for the people above you but for anyone below you they would still hear the thumping and feel the vibrations most likely even the people on the sides too.

    my new garage gym

four 4'x6' 3/4" stall mats from Tractor Supply. No strong rubbery odor even with all the doors closed. They were stored on a pallet outside at the Tractor Supply store so that may have dissipated the rubbery smell. But I'm working out in a garage with lawn mowers and the usual garage stuff... tire rubber smells aint nothin.

Body Solid Pro-Style Ab Bench (GAB60). I use this decline bench mostly for ab work, but also for decline dumbbell press.

Body Solid Multi Press Rack (GPR370). The gun rack, safeties, and plate storage were selling points to me. When I bench I can re-rack anywhere along the gun rack if I can't fully complete a rep, instead of resting it on the safeties. The downside to the gun rack is that it makes reracking the bar after a set of squats a bit tricky. Maybe I will get better after a while, but a couple times I thought I had the bar completely resting on the gun rack notches after a set of squats, only to discover it wasn't fully seated and was only just balancing on the nub/tip of one of the gun rack positions. The bar slipped off one side of the rack and fell to the gun rack notch below. Very scary! Now I always turn my head to each side before I unload, which is NOT easy to do with alot of weight, to ensure the bar is seated properly. My solution will be to get a 2nd pair of safeties for use up top. In other words, I will use that 2nd pair of safeties when walking back into the rack after a set of squats. Other than that, I really like this multi press and I am pleased with the purchase. I put a bar on the uppermost gun rack for doing pull ups (I have to tuck my legs at the knees obviously, but it does the job)

to be continued in my next post...

... continued from my previous posting.

Pendlay Elite 0-90 Adjustable Bench. Excellent padding/upholstery and construction. 1/4" steel. It was 190lbs delivered, which included the weight of the pallet. It came fully assembled, most of the construction is welding instead of bolted together. I ordered it from Pendlay's website. Shipping from Fort Mill SC to Houston TX was about $55 via R&L Shipping. Made in Fort Mills, SC at Pendlay's warehouse. It arrived 14 days after I placed my order. No complaints, works great.

Buddy Capps 7' power lifting bar. No complaints. Works great for my purposes... deadlifts, squats, bench, and bicep curls.

Pendlay Econ V2 bumper weights. I don't do snatch and cleans, so I don't really ever drop a loaded bar. Got them more just to protect the flooring incase I drop one accidentally. No complaints, very happy with the purchase. Shipping was free as are most bumpers from other places. The main selling point was the three year warranty on the plates. most other companies stop at a 1 yr warranty.

Hampton olympic dumbbell handles and assorted 10lb and 5lb plates. I received these as a birthday present a number of years ago. I don't think Hampton makes these anymore, but you can still find them from some online retails stores. I use Ivanko Compression clamps on the dumbbell handles (the best clamps in my opinion) because the last thing I want is for a bunch of plates to slip off and hit me in the face or smash my toes.

Thats about it. Nothing extravagant but I love having this little gym area at home.

ygohome, I have that same 1/2 rack on the front of my Bodysolid smith machine. I had the same problem when reracking the bar on squats, solved the problem by putting a mirror on the wall, it allows you to see if you've got the bar where you want it without turning your head.
Now OK for Sig line to be a novel

I love the reflex red power rack. I got it on craigslist for 575 dollars which is an alright deal considering these are around a thousand dollars brand new and nothing of commercial quality really shows up around chicago for power racks. It weights close to 300 lbs and is 2X3 construction with at least 11 gauge steel. I like the inspire FID bench which cost around 300 brand new and is rated to 800 lbs. This was another item that would have taken awhile to get on craigslist, there are just cheap benches around here for the most part. I got the Bigger Faster stronger leg curl/ leg machine for 100 dollars and they are 600 brand new. It is really heavy duty. Bought the key power systems leverage squat for 250 dollars and I like it. I just bought the promaxima lat pulldown with seated row like last week for 350 dollars. I really like this piece and it weighs 600 lbs. Again this lat machine I had to jump on because of all the cheap lat machines around here.

I have a set of dumbbells from 15 to 50 except I am missing the thirties. I have 40,50,60, and 70 lbs vtx dumbbells I got for 50 cents a pound at 2nd wind fitness. So I need some 80's now but they are hard to find used. I hope I can finish my set to a hundred soon. Most of the york plates I got from my dad and I wonder how much those hundred pound yorks would go for, I know my dad used them in the early 80's so they are probably from that decade or the seventies. I need more 3/4 farm and fleet 4x6 rubber mats, these things are really heavy duty. I dropped one of the seventies from a couple of feet and it doesn't leave a scratch in those mats. I would like to get a troy texas power bar soon but don't see any nice used bars ever.

    Really nice stuff there...!!! Repped...!!!

Thanks. My wife is tired of me buying expensive stuff but she doesn't understand. If I bought brand new it would be 3 times more expensive for a lot of stuff.

Thanks, I was lucky to inherit 2 sets of 45lb plates and one set of the 100lb plates from my dad. He was lifting in the 80's. The G2 york plates I found at play it again sports for 59 cents a lb, they don't know any better or don't care and just put them with the other cheap plates for the same price. Good for me. In the spring I want to get all of the rust off of them and spray paint them. I am debating whether to spray paint them red or blue or go with the hammered black like a lot of people do. I like colored plates though.

Thanks again. I wish I had more room. I only have like 270 square feet in the garage and would like to extend it someday but I don't know if it would be worth the price. I am sure it is really expensive. That rack came that color and maybe I will paint all the other equipment to match, It is a pretty sweet red and there is no rust on it at all. Its cold as heck in there when the temp is below 30 degrees. I don't have it insulated yet, that is what I want to do in the spring also. Don't know exactly what to do with the ceiling yet insulation wise. I don't work out with a heater either because I figure I am just wasting all that heat. Thank god for layering and nice cold weather compression and gloves.

Here's my home gym, I've purchased all of the equipment based on reviews and recommendations from you guys, so thanks for your help.

I live in the UK and our garages are very small compared to the ones in America...
