Loving the old gym equipment BRUTUSPLAC.
My little gym, still saving and looking for a power rack.

No, I am not a welder. I just love to work with wood and metal. I am kind of a do-it-yourselfer. I do all my own automotive and home improvement work. I am actually a manager of shop operations making appliances.

Donchesak, that bench looks solid as all get out. I hope after all your hard work you do yourself a favor and paint it to look as good as it is strong. You should even consider having someone sketch up a personal logo on a computer and take it to a vinyl printer. They can usually print out things pretty cheap. That would add a nice flare to your bench.

Thanks, Guys for all the feedback; it feels good to have people appreciate what I have accomplished. I spend all day yesterday finishing it. I was out in my barn at 6:00am and it was 22 degrees. I was welding, cutting, and fabbing all day for 9 hours. Total I have about 17 hours in the build, not counting all the time spent gathering the supplies.
T bought all the steel from this place
http://www.amsupplyco.com/remnant_me...stributor.html
I got it off their remnant pile and it ended up costing me 60 cents per pound. The bench weights 153 pounds, so that would put the cost for the steel at around $92, about $8 worth of welding rods, and $20 worth of padding and canvas puts it at about $120.
For the complete build photos visit this thread. I was originally going to buy a commercial bench, but couldn?t find anyone that had the one I wanted and someone suggested I just build one. So since I have built my entire gym any, I decided to take their advice and just build it.

Here are a couple of photos of some of the other things I have made. The pulley machine has a leg press and a leg curl/leg extension machine that hooks to it. I can do rows and lats as well on this machine. I use to work for a trailer manufacturer and cut all the weights using a burn table. My weight bench has a preacher curl and dip bar that fits into the end posts. I built most of this stuff between 1980 and 1984, and just started getting back into lifting, so I have been building a few more items to complete my set.Last edited by donchesak; 02-21-2010 at 04:58 AM.

Finally, My home gym is pretty much complete!
After months of accumulation my home gym has everything I need.
Thanks to all the great reviews & advice from the members in this forum.
The key components are as follows:
Sole S77 treadmill
Powertec rack, bench, leg attachment, & weight tree
Ironmaster dumbells
TDS Pull-up rack (designed for short ceilings)
Cap Barbell with 440lbs. of olympic weights (bar will probably be my next upgrade)
Standard curl bar with about 110lbs standard weight
Misc. items: fan (Menards), mirror (Menards), rubber mat (TSC), clock, shelf, towels, etc.
What do you guys think?
Overall view angle #1 (I had to invert front pull-up bar for rack to clear ceiling)
Overall view angle #2
Industrial fan, Powertec weight tree with cheap Cap barbell weights, & Bodysolid clock
View of my 50" plasma from my Sole S77 treadmill
Brand new Powertec Rack & utility bench
Ironmaster dumbells & homemade calf raise block

I was thinking of painting my bench with the Rustoleum Hammered paint to give it a professional look. What color should I go with?

I kind of like the dark bonze or the black

I post the pics to photobucket.com first, then you can use the code to directly post them on other websites.
My basement has a drop ceiling and even though I inverted the pull-up bar on the power rack, I would have to remove a ceiling tile for my head to go through on the up movement. The TDS rack is only like 65" tall or so and is designed specifically for short ceilings, plus I got the pull-up rack locally off craigslist for only $60 bucks so I couldn't pass it up. Otherwise I would just use the power rack which also came with dip attachments.

A big thank you to everyone in the workout equipment forum. If it wasn't for this site my gym would not look the way it does. I just added the Troy power bar yesterday and haven't used it yet, but I am pretty excited about it. Rack is the TDS 92563 and the bench is the Hoist HF4165. I have the old school Ironmasters and a pair of Powerblocks. I like the old school Ironmasters better, but I hardly ever use either pair since I have been on the Madcow 5x5 for a while now. The Schwinn is in a separate bedroom in my house, it gets too hot in Texas to do interval work in the garage on that thing!

Deadlift, that looks like a sweet room to workout in, man. Wish we had more basements where I live, practically unheard of here.
