Hey
That is a good idea with the spotters etc.. the ones on the wall looked like they were commercial I am in Canada about 1hour from NY state...NY dumbbells ship to me?
I decided to post some pics of my gyms progress I still have some work to do before I get the gear....next is paint, then I need the electrician back..then rubber floor..and drim and doors...
I do have my conan..its in my garage and in this computer room..you will see the stacks of parts in a photo! Also picked up 1400lbs worth of olympic plates really cheap.. i sanded/grinded them down..when I have the coin i will repaint...thinking hammer grey....cause my conan is all black as is the gym floor.
the gym is around 400 square feet......18 pot lights, will have build in surrround sound... I plan on doing it right...mirrors etc...rubber flooring...etc...lots of money! I have trained in a gym my entire life and want it done right.
I am going to use 6x4 rubber horse stall matts... $45 each here in Canada at TSC stores..anyone in the area know any stable supply store that sells cheaper?? anyways heres my progress thus far....keep posting your gyms/ideas it helps met generate ideas for mine!!... Mine is called "Demonseeds layer" ehehehe

Rubber Floor !
I have been investigating a rubber floor but they are not cheap from what I found. The figures for just materials range from $2500.00 to $3,000.00. My concrete floor needs some repairs here and there for the floor to be installed properly. I can do the work myself (I am a building contractor by trade) but it's going to be some time to put that kind of expense into it, For now I just use seperate matts.
The rack on the wall is just 2 x 2 steel with end plates welded on. I then put some rubber roofing material that has adhesive on one side on the top and face of the bar.

Check the NY barbell site. They have quite a few cool pieces of equiptment that if you have a welder can be made cheap.

I'm not a fan of LaLanne's, but the name definitely has some history behind it.
Also, the pics as posted in the original link are outdated. Lots of additional equipment, weight and upgrades: http://www.azironmine.com/2488/2728.html

How can you not like Jack Lalanne?? I'd be genuinely scared of him coming to find me.

Other Uses
Here is one of the other uses for the bars on the wall. I like to do wrist curls for the forearms so I came up with this. I also threw in a pic of my standing calf raise block. It's made from oak so I think it can stand the test.

Large selection in limited 10' X 10' apartment space. Uninterested in having a rack, I prefer dumbbells to barbells for better muscle stimulation & the reduced injury risk:
-Powertec lat pulley with high/medium/low pulleys-pulldowns, curls, extensions, pullovers, ad crunches, etc.
-Ironmaster adjustable bench:
Chins, hanging leg raises, preacher curls, situps, dips, flat/incline/decline dumbbell presses, military presses, etc.
-Adjustable dumbbells
-Bowflex - squats (spare me any free-weight dogma, I've gone heavy with free weights. these are as good if not better, and no spotter required), leg press (as good as the gym version), flys (as good as gym version), bench press, curls, extensions, leg curls, etc.

Nice wrist roller. I use a rope with a loop on one end and a clevis hook on the other. Put rope thru loop end around my olympic bar and "whoop there it is" a wrist roller. I just picked up a 300 lb Olympic weight set and a weight tree for $40.00 This guy has dumbbells 15-45 lbs and a nice bench and Lat machine he has to get rid of.

OK. I've been drooling over the pics of the gyms in this thread for a few days now, then looking at the pathetic set up I have in my bedroom. I just couldn't take it anymore, so about 30 minutes ago I went to Dumbbellbuddy and ordered a Powertec Power Rack! When that gets here I'll set up shop in the garage. Plus now I have a great excuse for switching over to Olympic bars and plates! I'll post pics after my new pride and joy arrives.

I'll have to take some time and do a recount one of these days. I'd guess that even with what I sold, I am probably at somewhere around 6,000 to 7,000 Olympic, 1000 or more of standard 1" loose plates, and then another 1000 or so of plates used for my pro-style dumbells.
I just did a really quick visual check of the garage gym and in big Oly plates alone I have: 2 ea 75lbs, 36 ea 45 lbs. I probably have somewhere between 40 to 60 ea of 35's, and 25's. Smaller plates I probably have double or triple those counts (around 80 to 120 of each for 10's, 5's, 2.5's).
I'd have to look out in my storage shed to see what else I have there as well. You just can't have too much weight lifting equipment and plates you know

Your shed sounds like my shed. I got all my steel on one end and it keeps sinking so I have to jack it up every so often and put more bricks under the wood runners. I should have laid a concrete pad before I built it. My last load of steel I piled neatly in the garage. And I've got other pieces stored in just about every nook and cranny in my basement along with old machines that I've cut up just for a few parts.

Its just been diagnosed, the term is "Ferric Iron Barbell Syndrome" or FIBS for short, a malady of a person to attract iron much like a magnet, studies have shown that a person suffering from FIBS has magnetic particles in their DNA, they are also known to have "magnetic" personalities and attract opposites. Treatment is to pass a DeGausing coil over the victims body. These victims also tend to align their beds to have their heads pointing to magnetic north.
