Not as good as some, but here's my room gym:
currently has a squat rack, olympic bar, olympic plates, a ****ty bench, another bar, some old weights and a bike.
I'm adding to it though, any advice on what else I should get? My friend is giving me a good price on a 5lb-50lb dumbell set with rack and a dip/pullup/roman chair station. He also has a good bench and more olympic weights which I'm going to get off him.Train insane, or remain the same. No hype necessary.

Hey, I've got a question about your setup powertec rack w/ lat attachent and the barbarian utility bench, as that is exactly the setup I'm considering to get. Do you have problems doing incline bench presses or shoulder presses with the barbarian bench because of the lat attachment? And how is that "extra" vertical support column of the barbarian bench, is it sturdy in the flat position or does it wobble?
So finally, would you recommend this bench for the powertec rack?

Well you can do incline benches at the back, although you'll have to get the bar out from a little far behind. Shoulder presses you cannot do from the back supports if the bench is up. The lat attachment doesn't allow you to put the bench further back than the last lower back beam. I simply take the front supports. The only difference is that you don't use the toothpicks for backup. I just put them in a little lower, so if my rep fails I can try those, otherwise I'll cheat the bar back on the support pins. I must admit though; for shoulder press I usually do MP (standing), and I normally do incline dumbbell presses, not barbell.
If this is a concern, I know there is another bench, from Bodysolid that's favorite; it slides backwards. I've tried this bench, but I fancy the barbarian over the BS. The vertical support you asked me about gives a very solid feel. For me, the bench doesn't wobble at all, but more importantly, the vertical bar makes sure the bench doesn't bounce/bend when the barbell is pressing your shoulders into the bench, like it does with regular multibenches, whose supports take a 'Z' shape when placed flat. I use the bench combined with up to 130kg benchpress so far, I weight about 91kg myself. I feels very solid. Another plus for this bench is that when you lower it to decline, the head side of the bench you can sit perfectly low for lat pulls. If you keep it just flat, I can stretch my arms and the weight would already be down. Put the bench in decline, and you're low enough for the weight not to hit the bottom even if you have fully stretched arms, this is very important to me. Maybe the BS also allows this, but then just consider this a tip .
I prefer sturdiness over being able to do incline stuff in the back. Also, I didn't like the fact that the BS would slide so low to the ground if you'd be doing shoulder presses.Last edited by dePaljas; 08-10-2008 at 12:41 PM.

Well ordered my chin station today. A few structural tweaks will have to be made like cross braces but other than that its fine.
