I am pretty sure all saber style safeties are gonna screech.

And the j-hook "problems" are fairly common, I wouldn't indite a rack based on those complaints.

This thread is very inspirational. When I get my own place, i plan to get more equipment. I just haven't had any income for a while, so gotta use whatever I can.
Heres my setup in my bedroom... A soloflex! Fitted with weight plates, I find it very good.
Setup configuration for leg press (Lay on my back), military press etc

    When configured for pull ups

    Dips

Bench press (I also remove em and do dumbbell flys on the bench etc)

    weights

I picked up some 1" weight plates $.50 a pound at a local equipment shop. (Mike's fitness Equipment in Riverside Ca , pretty cool place) 70ibs for $35 not bad imo.

I painted the Marcy plates since they where a little nasty

And last but not least, my cardio machine. Schwinn Worldsport converted to fixed gear

according to soloflex's site, it can handle up to 500ibs. I doubt I would ever reach the need for 500ibs though lol

Soloflex is a pretty interesting home gym as far as space use and catering to beginners but it limits your range of motion like a smith. And that's a minus for safety, possible joint injuries. I wonder if its possible to combine with shermworks free spotter. Put the soloflex bar thing at the top position, hang ropes from it and put a real bar on them with free spotter. Then you'd have full range of motion.

Its a good sized room, I got a queen size memory foam platform bed to the right of the machine , in front of that a computer desk and dresser, and some room on the floor for push ups etc.

I think i might use some old savings bonds that I got from my grandparents when I was a kid to pick up some olympic weight plates, since I was borrowing the weider from my step dad. would be nice to have my own, and i figure it would be a good investment that I can keep forever. What do you guys think of these? http://www.mikesfitnessequipment.com...ate-set-255lbs

Thats pretty amazing, man. Those plates look great.

Starting my own gym and saw some pretty good deals on racks. Amazon has them for $200-300 with free shipping.

Thanks dude, A few of my buddies got into fixed gear bikes in 2010, a friend of mine built one from an old bike he bought, so seeing them ride made me want one (and I needed an adult bike anyways, can't be riding no bmx bike lol ). Being unemployed I kept it on a budget.

PIcked it up as a project bike on craigslist for $80. Old schwinn world sport road bike, prior owner stripped most of the parts off to this.

    How I got it.

    I stripped the frame down

New chain, saddle, track cog, tires, handle bars, brakes All ordered on ebay, this is where I spent the most money, but I don't remember the amount. And repainted .

Track cog affixed via red loctite (ghetto method known as a suicide hub setup). But been 2 years on it great, I do not do skids so its not as abused.

The hipster fixies dont usually put a front brake on. I rock a front brake for safety, and just back pedal. It is a great workout though, I live in a moderately flat neighborhood with a little incline and low traffic, I would just do laps around some of the blocks, but the gearing is fine imo. I would do like 6 to 10 miles a day depending on how I feel after 6 miles. Eventually I added lights for safe night riding and the water bottle.

It's not the most expensive bike out there, not the lightest or trickest like other guys with aero frames and wheels etc, but it does a great job for what I use it for, recreational fitness.

Oh yeah, Mr Tuffy Tire Liners is perhaps the best thing I ever did for the bike, I haven't had a flat since I put those in over a year ago. =)

Got a quick question about some of my equipment...

I've got a power tower (used for pullups, dips, captain's chair etc) and I remember when I bought it the directions said never leave it out in the rain.

Unfortunately the only place i can really leave it is a place where one half of it gets wet whenever it rains. Whenever this happens i tip it sideways and red rusty water comes flowing out of one of the holes in it. Any ideas if this is gonna cause any safety issues for me in the future? The outside is completely fine, it's just the inside of the tower that I think is rusting a bit. Will it break??

The outside is probably layered with some rust guard, but the inside won't be. It's probably rusting from the inside hence the water but you'll never really know just how much it has rusted. My suggestion is buy some sort of cover to put over it during periods of rain.

Get the base on some 2x4 scraps when not in use. Cover with painters plastic and bungee cords as well.

Things can easily rust from the inside out. Car fenders used to, and so do ships.

It's nothing special, but seems to be working so far...

    Body Solid half-rack and FID70

Precor elliptical, Body Solid GLM83 lat machine, TKO heavy bag

CAP combo trap bar, Super Curl bar, misc. plates and racks

And a raggety Image smith I'm thinking about chopping up and turning into a leg press if it doesn't sell soon. It's currently disassembled and sitting in a corner collecting dust.
