do you jus increase the protein and fat and only eat carbs around pre and post workout?

Generally you just increase the amount you are eating.
Some people do have good results bulking on CKD, but most people find that switching to a higher carb diet brings better results. If you have an insulin problem, or just don't like carbs, then have a bash.65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

you need positvie caloric balance as well as sufficient protein intake if the interest is muscle protein synthesis
amino acid availablity (anabolic drive) is crucial regarding muscle tissue protein synthesis (particularly leucine- stimulates mtor pathway, significant stimulator of mrna)
