    Making your own plate mates

For those of you who are experienced in magnets and metal, would it be possible to make your own add on plate mates as heavy as 10 lbs. The heavest plate mate on the market only goes up to 2.5 lb so that's only a 5 lb increase to a dumbbell or barbell. I want at least a 10 to 20 lb increase of add on weights. If this could done, I think it would save a lot of people money on sets of of fixed dumbbells. So, it would be like the compact dumbbell system except with magnetic weights.

Anythings is possible, but the problem is two fold IMO.
    1. If you could get a 10lb magnet that was strong enough to stay in place when you drop the bar, you would have a had time getting it off when you want to remove it.
    2. Magnets dont last forever (at least nothing you make yourself) so, you may be spending a heap of time for nothing.

Cant you just buy some small plates??
