okay i know how countless people say high reps does not "tone" your body, and cardio and diet does. but, doesnt the high amount of repetitions burn the fat around the targeted area? or maybe what im saying is the same definition of toning and it isnt true?

No
"Toned" and "Defined" are looks you can acheive through having a lot of muscle mass and low bodyfat levels. There are methods of building muscle and methods of losing fat. There is no such thing as toning a muscle.

Spot Reduction Myth
Contrary to what the info commercials suggest, there is no such thing as spot reduction. Fat is lost throughout the body in a pattern dependent upon genetics, sex (hormones), and age. Overall body fat must be reduced to lose fat in any particular area. Although fat is lost or gained throughout the body, it seems the last area to become lean or the first area to get fat is the midsection (in men and some women) and hips and thighs (in women and few men). Sit-ups, crunches, leg-hip raises, leg raises, hip adduction, hip abduction, etc. will only exercise the muscles under the fat.

yes i do not understand this. i am a fitness instructor. and all the PT's in my gym say that doing 15+ reps tones the muscle.
what does it actually do. doing 15+ reps?
is it just maintaining the muscle you have or what?
i told them that to get cut/lean/define etc you need to alter your diet and add in cardio days. i said the weight and reps do not matter. but they said it does????Age: 22yrs old

So please, there is no need to keep asking this question just because people tell you no, it's not possible.Last edited by Flex500; 12-12-2005 at 07:02 AM.

isn't this the idea.....the more muslce you gain in that area the faster the metabolism around the area therefore making you lose a bit of fat around that area. for example if you had fatty arms, and decided to work out the biceps and triceps, doesn't your metabolism around that area increase therefore losing fat and becoming more toned in the arm region..........correct me if im wrong! (i prolly am)
whey all the way to becoming lean and mean!
