Belly Button Rings
Hi All. This is my 2nd post so please bare with me if I'm in the wrong area. Basically, I am on a mission AND being successful at it! I've changed my diet and lifestyle around 180. So far, through HEALTHY eating of mini meals totally around 1300-1500 calories a day, 2x cardio sessions, and weight lifting, I've lost 10 pounds in the past 4 weeks. My goal is to lose (INITIALLY!!!) 30 pounds then go from there to lose more body fat and gain muscle. Since I've always had a GUT, I've always been ashamed of my tummy. One of the "prizes" I want to give myself is a belly button ring. My question to the female bodybuilders/figure competitors is do any of you have them? I MIGHT (and we'll see how far I'm able to go!) want to enter a figure competition later in life and don't want to have point knocked down if most people don't have navel rings. What do you recommend? I could always treat myself to a nice swim suit instead! :-) Thanks in advance and thanks to the bb.com community for helping me make my dreams a reality. xoxo - Michelle

well Im not a competitor or anything but I have mine done and its very sexy. Like MsFitness I just wear a jewel. I doubt you would get points off for that and anyway if you needed to you can take it out (once it fully heals) or wear a spacer for competitions.
Just FYI when you get it done they tell you that it takes 3-6 months to heal. Im a super healthy person, never get sick etc so I was sure it would heal much faster! In reality though it really took about 5 months to fully heal up!! I

Personally, I think that belly button rings detract from fantastic abs rather than add to them. And a neat new swimsuit is so much more practical... but that's just my opinion. Whatever you decide, best wishes in meeting all of your fitness goals and congrats on what you've accomplished so far!

Hey girl! I had mine pierced for years, and I felt that it was uncomfortable when I wore my leggings and jogged, and I had to pay a lot of attention to it in the gym so I didn't hit it with a weight or something, plus I would sweat a lot. Now that it's gone, I have a hole there and it looks sorta weird I think a new bathing suit would be better!

Or you could just take the piercing out for the competition and put in back in after.

I thought that would the case... also the other advice others have given. I used to have one (don't ask me why, I was still a bit flabby) and like others have said, it can be bothersome when working out. Thanks to the forum for what they've said & for their words of encouragement. This place keeps me going to the gym @ 5am!! xoxoxo - Michelle

I had mine pierced 7 years ago, Loved It. I work in the yard and garage alot during the summer. Last summer I was working on the riding lawnmower, had set it on it's end and was lowering it back down. Yup, my bar was grabbed by the front of the mower and it tore some, ouch, bad ouch. I took it out and feel so wierd without it. I would love to have one again, but I do alot of heavy hauling around the yard and was always bumping and snagging it.

The great thing about a navel piercing is that its not a tattoo - so you can change your mind. If the other competitors say they wear them without a problem, I say go for it. You can always take it out.

Once I reach my cutting goal..I`m 'thinking' about maybe getting mine pierced. I`ve always hid my stomach, my whole life, so now that I`m finally getting in shape..I may just get it done for my 46th birthday. Maybe! LOL If I don`t chicken out, after hearing some of the less positive stories, on here!

Rewarding!
I got my belly ring when my waist was...lets just say big.. and I never wanted to show it off because my tummy wasn't as tight as I felt it should be, but recently the same belly ring pokes out a bit and I realized how much tummy I lost...that was so rewarding!! That shows the results of my working out and even though it was such a small thing I'm happy I got the ring because it now compliments my belly so...DO IT! Why not, you're working out so it will really look good on you

I say do it! I love mine. Got it done, for the second time, about 5 weeks ago. I took my first one out when I got pregnant, did not have one for about 7 years. I missed it and so did my husband. So, when we "finished" having babies AND I got my stomach back in good shape, we headed to the piercer! I do not regret it one bit! And if you are worried about it being a distraction during competions- use a clear retainer, like the previous poster suggested.

How painful are they to get? I have a high pain tolerance, but just hate the idea that a BIG needle is being shoved through my skin! The ear piercing never bothered me too much, as the gun thing they use is so fast...that it is all done, before you even know it`s going to happen. Is the area numbed real good, or do we just grin and bear it?

I've had mine pierced 4 times (short boring story). The 1st 2 times I actually watched the needle go in and nearly fainted. After that I learned my lesson - just look up. I was never numbed but never felt much pain. What hurt the most each time for me was the little pinchers they use to pull your skin out and hold it before they stick in the needle. My nose hurt WAY worse and for much longer.
