My Cliched New Year Blog
Okie dokie! So what I've got so far. I will edit tonight after gym and dinner.
6AM: 1scoop Whey protein + 1/2 scoop glutamine (103 Cals, .67g Fat, 20g Protein)
8:30AM: 2 packs of plain oatmeal. I use instant because I eat breakfast at work. (200 Cals, 4g Fat, 8g Protein)
10:30AM: 1 Protein Bar because I was hungry and tired and frustrated with work (260 cals, 7g Fat, 16g Protein)
12:30PM: Lasagna Florentine (290 Cal, 9g Fat, 15g Protein) and a cup of PG Tips.
Total so far: 853 Cal, 20.67g Fat, 59g Protein
And the average Caloric intake (because no calculators said the exact same thing...baaahh) 1510-1656. So shall we say 1600?
Even though my Bodyspace Workout Page hasn't been updated in awhile it doesn't mean I'm not working out. I haven't taken a break at all. I just usually work out at 5AM and record my info in the evening from my log book. But I had lost my log book and recently found it again. Yay! I brought it with me today to work out tonight (I work part time at the gym too and tonight is my night).
Workout:
Shoulder Press 1x10 45lbs, 1x6 65 lbs, 1x3 100lbs w/assistance, 1x15 45lbs, 1x9 45lbs
Arnold Press: 1x10 10lbs DB, 1x10 10lbs DB
Seated Front Raises: 1x10 5lbs DB, 1x10 5lbs DB
Seated Raise with twist: 1x10 5lbs DB, 1x7 5lbs DB
Bent Over Flies: 1x10 5lbs DB, 1x12 5lbs DB
30 minutes on the new fancy schmancy elliptical. Better than normal elliptical as it actually requires that you push through the movement rather than it propelling along.
Food: Have guests so we went out to eat
3/4 of a Ranch Chicken Wrap 594 cals
Stuffed Tomato: 200
1 baby back rib: a bijillion calories I'm sure. guesstimate 70 with sauce and all.
A cup of Tips with splenda and teaspoon of milk. And a penguin. Oh my sweet lord Jesus, a penguin.
So where does that bring me to? 1817. Okay, so I'm 200 over. I was thinking about having a beer but I'll scratch that!

I shake my fists at Mexican food
Sigh...
8AM: 1 cup of yogurt w/ 1/2 scoop protein powder
10AM: 6 slices smoked turkey lunch meat
12PM: It goes downhill here. We aren't even going to talk about it other than I didn't eat everything on the plate and its damned hard to find something incredibly healthy at a mexican restaurant. Still have houseguest, he and the man came to my work to take me out to lunch. It was nice and it was an enjoyable splurge. It just seems like such a waste to begin this thread and then immediately have a bad for me meal.
As for eating nazi-like strict...
I find it hard and so will most everyone else, to begin hardcore like you are cutting for a contest. I've tried that in the past and I quickly got bored. (For the most part, I do not eat bad all the time. I am however addicted to breads and desserts.) I am of the belief that changing the way you eat should be a gradual process. Make it a slow change, not a drastic change, and you are more likely to stick with the diet. I think Al Faz is a bit mean when he says things but I do agree that a good bit of people will drop because they get discouraged. They will get bored with eating a strict diet, now. I emphasize NOW because strict eating is something you must build up to. This is a rant and it probably doesn't make much sense. I think part of it is trying to justify to the rare person who reads this why I'm not jumping in with meals like some turkey, slice of cheese, and a handful of almonds. I can't do that. I know competition bodybuilders that have a hard time doing it. So I do what works for me and that is balanced (with the exception of today's lunch) smaller meals and healthy snacks. Me, I just need to stop eating out and that will happen when everything settles back to normal.
I will update later with workout and dinner. Today is leg day (I am aiming for vomit).
Okay, I didn't have my training notebook with me so I'll just write what I did. Weight was variable but always challenging! I heart working out with Darrell...
Biceps and Legs
1) w/u bicep pullups. 2) concentration curls. 3) reverse curls with bar (small straight bar) 4) forearm curls superset with bicep curls with small straight bar 4) Hammer curls with DB superset with tricep kickbacks 5) Drop set from 60 lbs Cable curl with straight bar. I think there is more but I can't remember
1) single leg squats BW 2) Hack squats 3) Plie Squats with DB 4) stiff leg deadlifts superset with regular deadlifts 5) single leg leg curls 6) hip adductor superset with hip abductor 7) Glute kickback 8) Leg Extensions. Stretch
25 minutes in pool alternating complete laps of kicking down with paddle board, then backstroke (I don't like my face in the water), then water running. Repeated for 25 minutes, minimal rest.
Dinner is brewing right now. Oh, did I mention the houseguest (bro-in-law) is a chef? Drool...
Tilapia topped with Spinach, spaghetti squash, asparagus with new potatoes. The chef is incredibly healthy and a vegetarian (the fish is for Darrell and I) so it is a balanced meal and well prepared. Woohoo to me and my belly.

Splurges are going to happen every once in awhile don't worry. As far as the strict eating goes, yeah it never works to start eating really strict right away (for me at least). I've been building up to start eating a lot stricter come school again. Don't get frustrated thats the main thing.

Update on Dinner and then today's eats
Of course this will be edited later to include all that I ate and did today...
Last nights dinner was incredibly awesome. My last post was before dinner. The tilapia was wonderful. They were small fillets so I had two, covered with sauteed spinach. There was spaghetti squash which I've never had before, it was different and gave me the illusion that I was eating a starchy side. The other dish was boiled and blanched asparagus with new potatoes, mushrooms, sauteed garlic and onion, with halved cherry tomatoes and olives added at the last minute. It was cooked with olive oil and paprika which Chef Bro said mimicks bacon grease. I have left overs. Lots of delectable left overs. I have the asparagus mix and squash for lunch, not more than 350 cals max. And I have some left over sauteed spinach to put over my cottage cheese later. Yum.
8:00 AM: 2 packs of regualr oatmeal 220 cals 4 grams fat, 6 slices turkey 60 cals. You would be amazed at how wonderful the turkey is after eating plain non flavored oatmeal. When I take a bite of the oatmeal and then it the turkey it taste amazing. Like a turkey flavor explosion.
10:30 AM: 1 container of Muscle Milk Chocolate Pudding 160 Cals, 6g fat
12:30 PM: The aforementioned lunch

Update for Friday and the Weekend
On the way home I had a protein bar. Around 4:30ish
I then went to the gym and ran a mile and walked for 10 minutes. Did pool running for about an hour with my fiance.
I drank a beer which was pretty tasty and well deserved I though
And for dinner I had a slice and 1/2 of pizza. I woke up Saturday and felt less bloated than I have in a long time. Eating well for a few days seems to do the trick, but then the weekend descends upon me and that's a whole different beast.
This weekend was birthday celebration weekend.
Saturday: We woke up around 10:30 and had lunch at Quizno's
I had the turkey gaucamole on wheat and a cup of the Green Chili Bisque.
Then we went to Cold Stone Creamery where I indulged in the Birthday Cake Remix.
After that I spend about two hours firing a 45. Twas awesome and totally bad ass. Grrrrr.
After that we went to Red Lobster for dinner and I ordered the stuffed flounder.
It wasn't the healthiest day ever but I had fun.
Sunday: I ate my left over Red Lobster for lunch.
I cleaned the gym.
Dinner was a feast. Darrell cooked for my birthday dinner, family came over.
1) mozzerella Proscuitto brushetta
2) Salad with a citrus balsamic vinegar dressing
3) Chicken and spinach stuffed manicotti with pancetta wrapped asparagus over a bed of vegetables such as spinach and mushrooms.
4) Red Wine
5) Homemade cannoli with chocolate chunks and pastachios (sp?)

looks like youre doing good. keep up the hard work. those couple cheats in there won't hurt you in the long run. remember, the key to a diet working is 90% compliance. that 10% cheating will actually help you in the long run and will keep you on the diet. just don't let it become much more than that.
good luck to you

I'm freaking cranky
So last night I spent a good long time at the gym. On the way home I got a ham and swiss on whole wheat. Darrell got a grilled chicken sandwhich. We split ours in half and shared.
Today is hectic. I had training this morning and this afternoon is reporting. I expect to be in the office until well after 6. Then it takes and hour for me to get home. I told Darrell that it was probably in my best interest (and his) that I do some vicious cardio when I get back into town. I'm in a fairly foul mood and hope that my appointments show up when they say they are going to. I told one I was leaving no later than 6:15. We'll see. I also started my period a day early, I was aiming for a day late. I really didn't want to spend my 30th birthday bleeding. Actually, I'd rather just spend my birthday in bed with some hot chocolate.
Okay, this AM. I had a breakfast bar 140 cals
Lunch: Personal spinach and feta pizza from the German bakery.
Snack: Soy protein shake. Its out in the car, I have to go and get it.
Don't know about tonight.

Hectic Week
This week has been killer. I'm glad its almost over. I think my last entry was Tuesday? Wednesday was my birthday. I celebrated with new ink. I can't remember what I ate. It wasn't bad. I haven't eaten any fried or empty type of foods.
I went to the gym tonight after work. It was a bit of a failure. I tried to run and every three minutes the treadmill would just shut off. I thought perhaps I had it set to .31 miles instead of 3.1 miles, so on the third attempt I opted for quick start. It turned off again. So I said, "screw it". By the time I could make my way through all the people in the gym, I lost my motivation and went shopping at the mall instead.
Tomorrow will be more structured.

Friday
My dinner last night was yummy. I had a 6oz salmon fillet and lots of veggies.
I have my stuff with me to go to the gym after work. It is Friday so the gym shouldn't be as packed as it has been all week. I'm not complaining, really. I just think that it is ridiculous that I have to stand in line and wait for machines. I do not like January. I applaude the effort of others though.
I'm tired. So sleepy and I am ready for the weekend. I should really try and get to bed before 1 am...
8:30AM: 2 packs oatmeal & a soy protein shake. Loads of vitamins.
10:30: Protein Bar
12:30: a frozen diet enchilada thingy. It wasn't half bad. A 100 calorie chex mix snack bag.

The Weekend
I don't recall much of what I did or ate this weekend. Sunday I did go to the gym. I ate well, nothing out of control or anything. The price of the sea bass was kinda out there, but well worth it.
I went to the gym this morning with Diana. We did chest. It was an okay workout.
I had a protein shake before my workout.
And I splurged and had a biscuit for breakfast this morning on my way to work. I have a killer headache and didn't know if I could wait the hour's drive to eat some oatmeal.
Good weekend though, however it wasn't quite long enough. Seems they never are.
