Bench press lowering bar above or below nipples?

For the past few years I have been doing hte flat bench press by lowering the bar slightly above my nipples, yet recently a trainer in my gym had told me that if you lower the bar below your nipples it would increase muscle growth in the chest. Does anyone know anything of this or has tried it? Or is it just BS? the guy is pretty big so I am not sure on whether i should take his avice or not.

The trainer is right on with his advice. Some power-lifters actually lower the bar to their upper ab area. Defintlet try lowering the bar under your nipples. It reduces the range of motion so you should be able to lift more

makes no difference..the muscles contract on a all or none principle...all of them....do not need a debate on this, its a scientific fact,so no matter if its below or above the nipple the whole Pec contracts anyway.

he's right, but not for that reason - it's safer on the shoulder and a more natural movement

    at or below nipple level

I heard of people using a smith machine (for safety reasons) so they could bench press bringing the bar to the neck region supposively hitting the upper chest more... u know anything about this??
