My 6 Workout Gaspari SizeOn Sample Review
First I just wanna thank Desrusan and everybody over at Gaspari Nutrition for giving me SIX FREE samples of their SizeOn product to try. I really appreciate it when a company lets the consumers "try before they buy" and when they keep it real and stand behind their products to the point where they let you try them for free. I would like to point out however that though I was given these samples for free, that that in no way impacted my objectivity. This review is completely unbiased. I also just wanted to point out that I have tried multiple creatine and carb products although I have never tried a carb+creatine product intra-workout. Also I am grading with a number system as always 1-10 with 10 being the highest possible score. I also weight things like effectiveness and ingredient profile over things like taste FYI, so the overall score isn?t really an average.
Taste- 9/10
I reviewed the grape blast flavor. At first I didn?t think it was so hot but it REALLY grew on me. It was probably one of, if not the best, grape tasting supplements I have tried thus far. That?s no small achievement considering all of the ingredients it contains. I have to say it was pretty damn delicious and I loved the refreshing taste as I chugged it between sets. It smelled strange, like grape mixed with curry(lmao), but that was before you mix it with water, and this strange smell IN NO WAY impacts the taste lol.
Mixibility-7.5/10
It takes a very long time to mix completely, and you always have to shake it before each sip or the ingredients tend to separate. I only mixed it with about 21 ounces of water instead of the recommended 26 as I didn?t have a shaker cup that big and my 32 ounce water bottle was filled with either BCAA's or water already lol. This isn?t really an issue though, it mixes reasonably well considering all the stuff that?s in there and the constant ingredient separation in no way deterred from the quality of the product.
Ingredient profile 9.5/10
Ahhhh now we get to the important part lol. SizeOn has imho the best ingredient profile of any creatine product I have used, or for that matter, have seen. It contains 3 kinds of creatine: creatine gluconate (creatine bonded to glucose), creatine alpha-keto-glutarate, and the scientifically proven creatine monohydrate. I am always a fan of using multiple forms of creatine so props to Gasprari here. A lot of people talk up the creatine gluconate as the most important ingredient in the product, but in my opinion, the real MVP here is the carb blend. It contains a couple different kinds of carbs but my favorite is amylose A.K.A waxy maize starch. I feel it really helps with endurance and ever better, it supposedly helps draw nutrients from your gut which not only has anabolic potential, but also helps create more room for that big post workout meal (or at least I experienced this). So yea that?s a major plus. There are also a bunch of other goodies in there like: Electrolytes, Taurine, Peak-ATP(supposedly direct fuel for muscle contractions, similar to the idea of creatine as an ergogenic aid, but even more direct), Citrulline, Malic Acid, Vitamins, and ALCAR. I would have loved if this product contained Leucine/BCAAs/EAAs but I heard that would have driven the price up even further (it's about the most expensive creatine product out there that isn?t made my MuscleTech lol) so I don?t blame Gaspari for choosing not to add them and keep it a strict creatine+carb+other goodies product and not a complete intra-workout supp. This allows you the flexibility to add these amino's if you so choose. (I stacked SizeOn with Scivation Xtend and drank them separately FYI). As for why I did not give it a perfect 10:A) I think the Citrulline and Malic acid should be bonded together as this has proven to be effective, whereas I am unsure that the citrulline will be as absorbed as well when not bonded to the malic acid (which is a Krebs cycle intermediate), B) it has anti-oxidants which >>MAY<< (keyword here) reduce the anabolic response to training slightly, and C) the blend is proprietary so you can't see how much of each ingredient your getting. Now again, this is NITPICKING! I gave the ingredient profile a 9.5 out of 10 i.e. almost perfect! lol
Effectiveness 10/10
Perhaps the most important and fundamental point one must bring up in a review is simply "does the product work?" and "does it live up to the label claims". In the case of Gaspari's SizeOn, yes, yes it does! My strength and endurance increased while on this product significantly. I even broke a long-lasting strength plateau on overhead dumbbell presses while using SizeOn. I was also more capable of incorporating supersets into my regime while on SizeOn. I have made some continuing strength gains since cessation of the product, however these have really only been on the deadlift and overheard press(both of which the SizeOn sparked over plateaus) but my reps on a few key exercises such as pull-ups have decreased or stagnated after stopping SizeOn whereas they were constantly and consistently increasing for the 6 workouts in which I used it. This would suggest that the SizeOn and not other factors were responsible for the rapid strength increases. I may attribute the dealift gains to the fact that I was being conservative and using a weight that may have been too light, but the dumbbell presses cannot be ignored as I was stuck on that plateau for almost a year and now I am 10 pounds(per dumbbell) over it! What perhaps impressed me most with SizeOn however was it's muscle volumizing effects. My muscles looked fuller than they EVER HAVE while using it. I am sad to say that because of where I worked out (my cellar in the freezing cold) I could not accurately judge if SizeOn increased my pump or not because i was so bundled up, so I can't say one way or the other if that label claim is true, but the rest are! I also noticed about a 20% increase in out of the gym recovery which is always a FANTASTIC bonus. I imagine all of these effects would have been even more pronounced if I had used SizeOn for the full month instead of just 6 workouts.
Overall 10/10
A Damn fine product from Gaspari as always. Now I know what all the hype was about, and that it was justified! I will be honest and say that even though I strongly considered buying some of this after using it, because of the price I have decided to try bulk waxy maize starch plus bulk creatine monohydrate instead. Using this product has given me a new outlook on supplement timing, and I now plan to take the bulk of my creatine intra-workout as opposed to the old pre and post method. If you have the money, I HIGHLY recommend this product for strength gains, and likely size gains when used for long enough. And or course, again if you have the money, I definitely recommend stacking it with some free-form BCAAs or EAAs.
Thanks again to Gaspari for letting me try this great product!
