Why Such a Late Log? I'm sure by now uhockey has lost all faith in me. I was supposed to start this log on Nov. 7th. The reason I didn't is because I was having insomnia (the really bad kind) and didn't want to waste the product. I had insomnia for about 3 weeks and only had 2 really ****ty workouts during that entire period. Anyways, I've finally gotten over it (again) and was able to resume working out on Thursday. I have since had 2 workouts. However, due to the insomnia, my strength has gone WAY down (about 30 pounds on compound lifts) and my bodyfat has gone up. It's sad.

What are my Plans? I think ActivaTe will help me get back into the flow of things after such bad insomnia. I plan for the next 4 weeks to be a testament to how fast a person can improve. I will be working out 4 days per week alternating upper and lower body as well as heavy and light days.

My goals: Firstly, I hope to get back down to my usual 9-10% bodyfat. Then I hope to get my strength back to where it was. From there, I want to add 5 pounds of lean mass, hit a 300 pounds squat for 5 ATG reps, and close a 200 pound hand gripper for 5 clean reps.

ActivaTe
ActivaTe, the brand new muscle enhancing product by Designer Supplements, utilises the natural lignan, Divanil, found in stinging nettle root, to assist you in making the most from your own body's testosterone in order to build muscle mass and reduce body fat. Your body maintains tight control over its own pool of testosterone, allowing some to be active ("free"), while leaving the rest inactive ("bound"). Regardless of the actual amount of total testosterone floating around your body at any one time, this figure could be theoretically doubled or trebled without any significant effect on muscle growth or fat loss; the body would tightly regulate it, only allowing some of it to be active to exert its beneficial effects (or detrimental effects if overused or abused). The rest would remain bound and ineffective for our purposes.

The way your body controls testosterone is through a protein called Sex-Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). This can render upwards of 50% or more of your testosterone pool unable to exert its muscle building effects by attaching to the androgen receptor of the cell. It is through testosterone-to-androgen receptor interaction that protein synthesis is promoted (think muscle growth). ActivaTe cripples SHBG, activating a much larger percentage of your testosterone. With more testosterone activated, your workouts will improve, you will build muscle faster, lose fat easier, and your strength will increase faster than you ever thought possible (without taking exogenous hormones). In addition to improved workouts, you will experience intense pumps, improved recovery, and increased focus. These remarkable benefits, however, are not the only benefit of including ActivaTe into your supplemental regime.

Prior Natty Test Boost Supps:
  • Plain Tribulus (various brands)
  • SAN Endotest
  • Diesel Test
  • Bulk avena sativa, longjack 100:1, maca, fenugreek
  • And other prods I don't remember so must've sucked

Workout Schedule:
Mon & Thurs: Upper Body
Tues & Fri: Lower Body

Upper Body Plan:
--3X6 flat bench press
(alternate with)
--3x6 bent over row
--2x6 wide grip pullup
(alternate with)
--2x6 military press
--2x6 dips
--1x6 lateral raise (front and side)
(alternate with)
--1x6 bicep curl

Lower Body:
--4x6 Squat
(alternate with)
--4x6 Stiff leg dead lift
--2x7 1-leg calf raise (barefoot)
--40 rep calf raise (barefoot)

On light days I'll either just lower the weight a bit or lower the weight and up the reps by 1 or 2. Plus there's the use of my hand grippers which is usually just on their own time.

Aside from lifting, I also enjoy running but my runs are almost always intense and short. I generally do fast 15-20 minute trail runs. Once in a while I'll go on a distance run. I also practice kung fu and tai chi.

Update

Well, I started using the AT on Wednesday. Right now I can say that taking 1 serving preworkout leads to awesome pumps and vascularity. Other than that, I might be experiencing a neat little mood boost, but it's too early to tell for sure about anything.

Mike, signing on from the PICU on a dreary Sunday during which I shouldn't even be here.......thanks for giving me something/anything to do/read.

You wanna talk dreary? It's been raining non-stop up here for days. And my room is in a non-heated basement with crappy insulation. But I still love it. The only thing that keeps my warm is working out

Wow man, that's def. a healthy diet! Impressive. Should control many factors of aging/disease such as glycation, inflammation and oxidation. May I add that a science-based multi-nutrient supplement such as AOR's Ortho Core would complement your diet extremely well!!

All that rain and cloudy weather puts you at risk for suboptimal Vitamin D blood level status and is a more common deficiency than reported. More advanced/up-to-date science shows we need higher levels of Vitamin D than our diets provide.

Very interested in your log. It's a product I'm very interested in BTW. Still haven't seen it available anywhere in Canada. Soon enough i guess.

good luck

Yeah, my diet is very good. I'm all about natural foods and follow the Hippocrates quote "All food is medicine and the best food is the best medicine." I would be in incredible shape if it wasn't for this insomnia problem.

I occasionally take a NOW Foods Eco Green Multi but really I get a lo of vitamins from my food. What I listed is just the bulk of what I eat. I often have many other "special" foods depending on how I'm feeling. Have you ever looked into the multivitamin made by Garden of Life? They have some very good products (pricey though).

As for vitamin D, I usually get that from Carlsons Cod Liver Oil.

Oh and BTW, I actualy don't use mozarella cheese any more. I've decided it isn't fit for human consumption

EDIT: there, I updated my diet list

Okay my Br-izz-os (can't believe I said that), I don't think I can workout today. My gym is full of paint fumes (I'm painting it red and yellow and it is bad ass! with a fohkin red lightning bolt and everything). Maybe I will venture to the crappy community college gym, but I don't know yet. I really hate it there.

I might be... should I post my log there?

Okay, back to the log. I keep remembering things that I forgot to post in the first post. I'm also supplementing with Alacer Mega Gram 3 (the BEST vitamin C supp) as well as occasionally use GHV (ginkgo, huperzine, vinpocetine). I'm also cutting all caffeine outta my diet except for that which comes from the usual cup of tea. For this first week, I'm gonna be all about dropping some fat so I'll be zigzagging between no carb and medium carb intake as well as ultra low and medium calorie intake. By ultra low, I mean like 1000 calories in a day. Then 1500 the next day and 2000 the next followed by another 1000 cal day. I'll probably also be doing 2, 20 minute cardio sessions per day for this first week.

In the second week I'll be going no lower than 2200 calories in a day and doing no more than 1 cardio session per day.

Okay, I'm gonna go to my local, craptastic community college gym to workout because my gym is full of paint fumes.

I worked at at the Shoreline Community College gym today because I've been painting my gym and the fumes just do not make for the right environment.

This gym has no squat rack, no barbell bench press (but it has one of those old Universal leverage benches), dumbbells that go up to 75 and fixed barbells that go up to 65. Now get this: they're lacking the basic essentials of a gym but they have the nerve to go out and buy 2 new pieces of equipment. What equipment? Oh, You're love this! The thigh adductor and abductor. Two seperate freakin' machines for this dumbass movement and they don't even have a squat rack! It's sad.

Anyways, Iwasn't able to take down any numbers cause I couldn't do my usual workout. But! I still had a great time lifting. I was so pumped the triceps and shoulders in was insane. I took AT preworkout and the pump lasted til about 60 minutes after I was done. Great stuff.

Well, tomorrow I'll be able to workout in MY gym and get some solid numbers put up so we can have a point of reference.

Yesterday's leg workout

Well, I was tired as all hell, but took it to the man anyways. Here were my weights:

Squat: 235
SLDL: 235
1-leg calf: 55

It's sad really, Just about 3 weeks ago I was squatting 280 for teh same number of reps. But I'm gonna stay confident and try to get myself back up to those numbers by the end of this log. Actually, I'd like to surpass them if only by 5 pounds. I think it's possible.

BTW, I've started using this new supplement as my preworkout carb source. It's a mixture of herbs and honey and is made by Himalaya (probably teh best herb company out there). Anyways, it's called Chyavanprash and here are the ingredients:

Amalaki, Bamboo, Indian Long Pepper, Cardomon, Yellow Fruit Nightshade, Malabar Nut, Bael Tree, Agarwood, Boerhavia, Indian Cassia, Cinnamon, Clerodendrum Phlomidis, Cyperus, Sarivan, Air Potato, Spiked Ginger Lily, Malay Bush Beech, Indian Elecampane, Leptadenia, Lilium, Microstylis, Mesua, Waterlily, Oroxylum, Pentatropsis, Three Lobe-Leaf-Cowpea, Phyllanthus Amarus, Chinese Pistachio, Polygonatum Cirrhifolium, Indian Kudzku, Sugarcane, Sandalwood Tree, Sesame, Heart Leaf Sida, Fragrant Padri Tree, Blue Wiss, Chebulic Myrobalan, Indian Tinospora, Tribulus, Uraria, Grapes, Honey.

If anybody thinks this will interfere, I will stop using it. I just love my ayurvedic herbs!

Last time I took a two-week break from lifting, my bench went down 40lbs and my squat 60lbs. It took me a while to get the poundage back. You are not worse off, so yeah, it's possible.

Upper body workout, Dec 1 (It's finally snowing!)

All weights are in pounds.

Upper Body Plan:
--3X6 flat bench press----185
(alternate with)
--3x6 bent over row----155 (used to do 200)
--2x6 wide grip pullup----bodywiehgt + 25 (sad, used to do 50)
(alternate with)
--2x6 military press----115
--2x6 dips----bodyweight + 50
--1x6 lateral raise (front and side)----20
(alternate with)
--1x6 dumbell bicep curl---- 40
20 pushups

Overall a great workout today. I slept like a log again last night which is very good news. Strangely, not much of a powerful pump this time around. I wonder if I didn't take the AT early enough preworkout. I was very focused and had a lot of energy. Hopefully this will keep up.

I will have an update of bodyweight on Sunday.

Update

EDIT for Chuck: Dec 3rd, '05

Lower Body:
--4x6 Squat----- 235
(alternate with)
--4x6 Stiff leg dead lift----- 245
--2x7 1-leg calf raise (barefoot)----- 35
--40 rep calf raise (barefoot)----- bodyweight

Workout was okay but could've been a lot better. I was lacking focus and energy. I was distracted by having to shop for a suit...

I also did some grip work. Did 3 sets of 12 on the 150 pound gripper with each hand. Once I get 15 reps easily I'll move on to the 200 pound gripper.

Someday, I will crush my dad's hand!

Day 13 of ActivaTe... kicking in full shabang!

45 min. Preworkout:
1 bottle Cricket Cola
1 all natural Oatmeal Raisin Cookie
1 serving ActivaTe
1 scoop WPI
1 free sample of Spike
2 caps GHV

I started having incredible pumps after my first warmup set. I think there's something to this unorthodox preworkout stack. And Cricket Cola is a really great drink... tastes sooooo good! It has the equivalent of 2 cups of green tea per 12 ounce bottle.

Crciket Cola INGREDIENTS: Carbonated Water, Sugar, Invert Sugar, Brewed Green Tea Concentrate, contains 0.5% or less of the following: Natural Flavors, Kola Nut Extract, Vanilla Extract, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Caramel Color, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (To Preserve Freshness).

See! Not so bad is it?

Upper Body Plan:
--3X6 flat bench press----185
(alternate with)
--3x6 bent over row----165 (up 10 lbs)
--2x6 wide grip pullup----bodyweight + 25
(alternate with)
--2x6 military press----115
--2x6 dips----bodyweight + 50
--1x6 lateral raise (front and side)----20
(alternate with)
--1x6 dumbell bicep curl---- 40
--1x6 hammer curl---- 40
--grip work

Post workout shake:
1 banana
1/2 cup mixed berries
1/4 cup organic oats
2 scoops WPC
1 T. Lecithin
Water
Vitamins

I felt stronger on this workout and could've done more weight, but I don't want to tempt overtraining cause I've been there before. I'll definitely be upping the wieghts on Thursday though. All the lifts felt stable and flowed well.
Spike, the Biotest preworkout dealy, is okay. I've used it several times before by free sample and say that it is like a lighter version of AMP. But it certainly is not worth buying IMHO.
I think the AT is really starting to kick in. I feel "warmer", confident, upbeat, and just generally good. And this was a very good workout despite being tired from partying with a bunch of doctors and doctor's assistants the other night .

Two things I have problems with that maybe someone can give me advice on: shoulder press and grip strength. The most I've ever done with military press is 135 pounds for 5 reps. I really want to speed up my sgoulder developement. Also, with grip strength, I find that transitioning from the 150 lb gripper to the 200 lb is really hard even though I can easily get 15 reps outta the 150. Any advice for this?

Training notes: I did underhand grip row today instead of teh usual overhand. It felt really good and got deep into the center of my back. I was doing my dumbbell work one side at a time. I find that I like this because it really engages the core muscles for stabilization. Try it out!

Day 14

Workout Music: Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here

Lower body (the tired workout):
2x5 Deadlifts----- 245
5x5 Narrow Stance Squats----- 255 (up 20 lbs!)
2x5 Sumo Squats----- 255
3x8 1-leg calf raise (barefoot)----- 35 (no rest between sets)

This was a wierd workout. I was really tired and just couldn't get through my deadlifts. But I was feeling very strong on squats so just kept hitting them up. I added some sumo squats and those felt really good... gettin up in the inner/under thigh area. Anyways, it is strange. I am dog tired from staying up late and yet I added some serious weight to my squat. Interesting. I also did a slightly different calf workout. As you can see, I'm an instinct-trainer and although I usually work from a set plan, I often deviate from it based on how I'm feeling during the workout or what feels like it needs/wants extra attention.

Preworkout:
1 bottle diet Cricket Cola (yuck! will stick to regular)
25 grams dextrose/sucrose
12 grams EAA
2 caps GHV
1.5 serving ActivaTe
1 gram ALCAR

Post workout:
General Tso's Chicken
Fried rice with veggies

Man, I work out to some lazy **** (Miles Davis, Zeppelin I and III, etc) but even I don't think I could get pumped to DL on WYWH.
