Ive never heard a straight cold shower. I have heard that alternating between a hot and cold water temp during the same shower can increace your blood flow which would help with post-workout recovery. Not sure if it actually works, but i don't see a harm in trying...

going from a hot tub to pool and back, over and over, causes your muscles to tighten and then relax. This was once touted as a form of exercise... LOL

You're talking about contrast showers.... its just a recovery technique.
If you have hot and cold tubs its better but you can do it wth a shower.
Basically you just alternate water as hot and cold as you can for about 30 seconds..... it causes dialation and constriction of your blood vessels which helps to flush out some toxic metabolic by-products.
You typically end with cold because you don't want to encourage further inflammation, which hot would (since it opens your blood vessels).
They can help with soreness and recovery.... just don't do it expecting any sort of miracle.http://youtube.com/user/Kiknskreem
