Give it some time. And be prepared cuz there are some real scumbags that walk around in a gym thinking they are God's gift to women.

"Hey there sweetie do you need a spotter?"
And they are NOT trying to be helpful when they say it. It annoys me because I am just minding my own business. I know what I am doing and I don't need/deserve to be patronized when I'm working out!

Probably one of the more annoying things a guy could say to a woman working out is, "Wow! Nice pecs!" (What he's looking at/thinking about is far from pectoral development. )
Just my two cents as a maladjusted, egotistical guy that has too much time on his hands.

No one's ever said anything to me, either. However, occasionally I notice some guys watching what I do and then trying to imitate me later, hehe.

Maybe it's because I workout at a small gym where pretty much everyone knows me, but I have only ever had one guy make a rude remark. He's a local cop with a crappy body that seems to think he knows everything about training. He told me that I needed to 'watch it' because I was starting to get a little too big. He couldn't fathom at all that I was on a bulk and that I was also swollen from my lifting. That's it, though. Most guys are just impressed that I actually lift something other than the pink dumbbells.

I was doing bicep curls on the cables once and this guy - probably 45 y/o, 5'8"ish and 400lbs (no exaggeration) - came over to see how many sets I had left. I had one. He then took this opportunity to tell me that I should lower the weight and do more reps because men like a smaller, "toned" body - not big muscles.
I said nothing. I upped the weight and busted out a tough set.

I guess in the particular atmosphere that could be interpreted as an insult or such, but my daddy taught me to open doors for ladies and offer assistance when possible. I could find myself asking that question at a gym and not meaning to insult in the least! Heck it wouldn't be a pick up line cause my wife would kill me! Then again if one of her friends need help and I didn't offer I would get the ice shard stare. I guess it is a good thing that we work out at home and I don't get put into that situation! It is a modern world and us guys are danged if we do, danged if we don't!

i used to have a few guys walk up to me and constantly say stuff to me like "you're a girl, why do you need to lift?", "hahaha shouldn't you be at home cooking?", and similar. i've complained to the management and the harassment has stopped. then there were guys that would say stuff like "you look fine the way you are", but i look at that more as a compliment than an insult.

Incredibly sorry if i'm not aloud to post here if so i will remove promptly.
Ok well if a guy asks you guys in a regular tone and means no harm do you need a squat do you get offended?
Also if someone looks at you while lifting what do you think?
Like i look at guys and girls to see there form and how it is that's all i look at but i don't know maybe it looks creepy.

if you ever read any of the "how to pick up chicks at the gym" threads, this is a widely accepted form of the gym pickup line. even women on these boards say it's a good ice-breaker.

if it were just one plate i wouldn't have offered, but if you were loading several plates, i might offer to help. but, more often i offer to help remove plates if some douchebag left a ton of plates (or a 100 pound plate) on the leg press.

You are creepy
 j/k
I don't get offended if people watch me while I'm working out. I watch other people, too. And no one ever asks me if I need a spot, I have to go get someone for that. Even when I was a stranger at a big gym.

I just wanted to stop by and say I love a woman who lifts. Do not let an ignorant, unintelligent, and uninformed individual discourage you. Keep on doing what you are doing.

I have had nothing but kind words from the men in my gym, and there are some real macho mf-ers there! I am pretty surprised but then again, I will probably get a whole gorup of them come up to me tomorrow and hit me with "here are the pink dbs," "the cardio section is over there" and "a little girl like you shouldn't be lift weights- you should be lifting babies" or something asanine like that! *lol*

i saw this girl today doing squats and i was so impressed. she reminded me a lot of myself, because she was busting her butt. squats are not easy! she was also cute too so now i got a gym crush. you ladies think it would be a bad idea if i went up to her and set, "i think its great you're doing squats, i haven't seen many people here do them. <then talk about how they are a good exercise, and how much mine have improved> then ask her her name and then leave her alone. you think she would be creeped out if i started to talk to her?
i don't want her to think omg that is the guy that bugged me or something.
EDIT: nevermind, i'll just say, "hey i saw you squatting the other day, i thought that was really cool because not many people do them. my name is dog btw, if you need a spot or anything feel free to talk to me."

I respect women that bust their ass in the gym an are workig hard, but remember, if your a known face in their, men will "bust your balls" just like they would a man.
Then you got these other guys thats 400 pounds or 120 pounds an have no balls to be busted an immediately go after a women, in that case ladies....brush them off an work out hard.

I remeber one time my hubby was talking to one of his "friends" and I opened my protien shake and guzzled it down and he asked ,"Is that a protien shake ?".I then said "Yes." He just looked at me a chuckled under his breath ,like it was a waste of time.....I lost all respect for him after that....
