swimming not good for weight loss?

ok, I'm a great swimmer and I've been considering doing it for weight loss. However I have heard that, although swimming may be good for muscle development, it is not all that effective when it comes to weight loss. Is this true, and if so why?
    Thanks a bunch.

Swimming is good for weight loss b/c if you do it right, it turns into a cardiovascular exercise, which if combined w/a clean diet, can shed the pounds.

Well whoever told u that was wrong. Swimming is probably the number one cardiovascular exercise for anyone. It helps to work muscles and burn fat. While all swimming burns calories, swimming effective and proper laps burns more than just dog paddling around.

the reason its considered bad for weight loss is if you swim in cold water it makes you over eat and your body thinks it is in need a food or something like that... Ive read a clinical study on it...

No, its an excellent form of cardio which is very low impact (joints) yet highly effective at burning calories.

I guess if we said No to swimming, you'd do nothing instead? SWIM!! Go for it, it's fun as hell and you'll sleep like a baby. All swimmers are ripped!

Swimming 100 yards is equal to running a 0.25 mile. It is by far the best cardovascular exercise...so if you swim 1 mile a day, and eat a balanced, healthy diet, you will lose weight very fast and I can promise you that your legs will thank you. I would much rather swim 1 mile than run 4.5 miles.

Just don't overeat like K=urt says.

Yeah if you want to become a fish.

And how is it bad if it makes you want more food... Its not like the water is telling you to eat junk food.

If you get fat from swimming I will personally pay for a weight loss supplement for you.
