Can working out actually help heal a strain? I tore some of the string like fibers in my clavical head and they rolled up in a ball. Doc said I have to just create more muscle fibers by workout and making the blood flow increase in they spot. Anyway can working out actually help heal a strain?

Increasing the amount of muscle fibers is known as hyperplasia. As a general rule, working out only results in hypertrophy, which is a thickening of the muscle fibers already there. So no, working out wont help you grow any new muscle fibers. Working out would definately increase blood flow, but it would also be putting stress on an already damaged body part, which could make it worse. I would definately rest the muscle for a while at least, and then begin training low intensity range of motion stuff. Sometimes docs dont know what their talking about. You should see a physical therapist.

Dont know what exactly you did, but working out will help with recovery after the initial healing and recovery phase. First you need to R.I.C.E. until swelling goes away. Then you can start rehabilitating. Usually things will heal faster with use, than with complete disuse. Did you completely tear the muscle, or was it just a small tear?
