are drop set reps included within the actual set repetitions?? e.g. i want a rep range of 6-8 because of hypertrophy and some strength gains but i like to do a set of 8 reps immediately followed by a drop in weight and another 8 reps (drop set)...does this mean i am doing 1 set of 16 reps and hence training endurance?? or am i doing two hypertrophy sets??
any feedback would be much appreciated and you will be repped for good feedback!!...thanks in advance
It's more like endurance training because you're doing more reps per minute, and the drop sets are kind of like just continuing the set except you're resting allowing for more work to be done.
Usually you do a set of drop sets after your normal sets. So like 3 sets for bench, then immediately do a drop set after the 3rd set. If you have a partner you can do a strip set where you partner will strip weight off without you even getting up which minimizes rest time.
They are mainly for endurance which will also cause some muscle growth, but I don't think they help burst strength at all.
I've done a lot of drop sets and some higher rep sets (10, 15) over the years and I think they have limited strength gains. I'm not very strong for my size.
