what to eat before early morning workout?
I've always worked out in the evenings after work, but am going to start training with a friend at 6am.
What should I eat before working out that early? Working out on an empty stomach won't work for me (I've tried that before and half an hour into it, I'm dieing from lack of carbs in my system), but a normal breakfast won't be good because I'd eat it so close to when I'll be lifting.
Any ideas/strategies on what would work? I'm interested in advice based on personal experience, not "theory."
Thanks

oatmeal and whey protein (or egg whites)
complex carbs for slow energy release, and protein
some might say to get in some fat

best thing i would recommend to you man, if you will be lifting soon after this meal, would be to have a shake with maybe some fruit for carbs.
I always work out early in the morning too, but i am able to stomach a full meal about an hour before i lift. I like to have a big bowl of oats and some eggs to go with it, but alot of people wouldnt be able to stomach that if they are lifting soon after. I would at least try to get some protein in there and some carbs for energy, and so the lightest meal i could possibly think of would be whey and some fruits.......

when I lift early I usually just drink this:
1/2 cup oats
1 cup skim
1 scoup whey
drink it as soon as I wake up so it has time to digest while I am getting me stuff ready.

I train at 6:00 am also ... but I'm also up at 4:00 am and am finishing a good first feeding by 4:30 am lol...
I've had to wing it a couple of times though ... depending on how much time you have, a whey+casein drink + cereal (oatmeal) + some fruit is one option ... sub in eggs or cottage cheese ... get some liquid egg whites or boil up a couple of days worth of eggs ... There are several powdered carb sources if you want to drink your carbs (i.e. Prolab's Lean Mass Carb Component) ...
Depending on how long your workout is and your training goals, consider using an intra-workout product that contains BCAA/EAA/WPH (and maybe a small amount of carbs) - AEN's IntraBolic has a good profile for ingredient ideas.

As long as the active agent is "unknown" some dork is still gonna be poppin' chicken beaks so he can freakin' squat!
Crank up those catecholamines, that's not chicken I smell being cooked.

I wake at 2am and do cardio and then lift at 4am. I take in a scoop of whey beforehand that it. My inworkout nutrition though is BCAA's which seems to work fine for me to get me through the workout. I have my first real meal 30min after workout
