your body cant use all of the protein in the shakes.
A chicken breast is better than 2 scoops whey protein.
So, to those of you that have 3 protein shakes a day. how bout 1. and some chicken

not exactly sure how it works. But not all of that powder is gonna be absorbed. There was a post aboutt this in the megadosing bcaa's thread.
Your body cant absorb all that, thats why megadosing bcaas works well. its briken down already, your body wont have to break down amino acids.
your body is better off with whole food. not so sure about pw though.

ok yeah i think its clear we can disregard the oringal post. Why would your body be able to use more protein from chicken then from whey? Why would chicken be better absorbed? Chicken in the flesh of another animal while our whey powders are derived from somthing that was in a sense DESIGNED to be consumed and utilizted by an organism.

I'm taking in 4000 calories a day (3 of my meals being liquid) There's no way in hell I could stomach 4000 calories of all solid food. Shakes are just as effective in my book and are much needed.
Example: I'll eat 1/2 cup oats, yogurt, 2tbsp PB, 8 0z milk for my first meal. Now picture your stomach as a blender, all those acids breaking apart the food eventually resulting in a molch. IT'S ALL THE SAME WHEN IT'S IN YOUR STOMACH. But i do not recommended blending some chicken breast in a shake, some things should just be left solid
Also no one makes all their meals liquid, gotta mix it up a few here a few there, but generally when one goes to eat he or she will eat a solid meal. Drink liquid ones when you gotta. At 9m and 10pm my stomach is shot so i take in liquid meals to ease the workload on my stomach.Last edited by US-Marine; 11-21-2005 at 07:37 PM.

I wasnt planning on responding to this thread again, but I was thinking about this at work today and how can a solid food be better then a liquid food? The liquid is already broken down more then the solid so your body has less work to do. Theres a higher chance that more of the protein from the liquid will be used over the solid becuase your body has to first break the solid down, then pick through it and determine what is protein and what isnt, while the liquid is already broken down and most of it is protein. The liquid will be processed much quicker and will be more efficient at providing protein.
Conclusion: Liquid > solid.
I'd say dont neglect either though. Everything needs balance."Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they become actions. Understand your actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they will become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."

^^Man that's exactly what I thought too!!
Another thing..Someone said..'Scientists still havent figured out what makes up food'
Which year are you living in?? Here's a chain that might let you know something about food. My example here is chicken flesh,ok?
Our Mouth<---Chicken flesh<---Proteins,Fats<---Carbon,Nitrogen,Oxygen,Hydrogen,Sulphur<---Obtained from digestion of their nutrition<---Plants/Grains<---Sunlight+Chlorophyll=Plant Sugars<---Atmosphere
This maybe somewhat haphazard, but I think it gives you a picture of how it all is done. Chicken breast is made up of proteins and fats, which are made up of C,H,O,S and N..These chemicals are obtained from the food they eat, such as grains. Grains are made up of the same C,H,O,N and S..These nutrients come from photosynthesis and N comes from the atmosphere.
It's quite simple when you look at it.
Secondly, when you say the protein from a protein shake isn't absorbed, you're wrong. There is one main reason to this. Do you remember how digestion takes place? When the the absorption of food takes place through the Villi, it absorbs the important nutrients only. Remember that much? So,no matter what form of protein it is, it will only be absorbed when it is needed by the body. Otherwise, say hello to urea. It doesn't matter what form of protein it is. What matters is if it is needed by your body,or not.
A second minor reason as to why protein from shakes do get digested is that the protein in a protein shake is protein after all. The protein they use in the powder is not something that is made in the lab. It is an extraction. Those that are made in the lab are rarely bought, and rarely liked, because all of lifters know how bad synthetic material can get for us. So,while you may feel a chicken breast is better, keep in mind that the protein in a protein shake is the same that is in the chicken breast at times, only in the protein shake you dont need to care about the fats; or bird flu,in today's date.
LoL.
I guess that's a long post, but I couldn't hold back..I hate bio but I do it anyways.I,and only I am the SOLE KEY to my SUCCESS
