Why it's all about...ME in 2008, yes ME!!
Yes ME. I am without a doubt THE most important person in my family, sphere of friends and work.
That is why first and formost I take care of ME...ME first. I train in the early morning. If out late I nap the following day to catch up. I still get to the gym and train. Everything is delayed, cancelled or pushed out of the way to give ME my time.
This is Bill Pearl's explination why he trains in the early AM and gets himself done and outta the way before he faces the day.
A well trained and diciplined man/woman can then face the day and be a better husband, father, lover, son/daughter, neighbor, citizen, boss, employee and friend. Anything less than that, then you are cheating all. They are not getting the very best of YOU.

I actually beg to differ. The reason why I train in the morning and get it out of the way is because it is _not_ only about me. If it were, I would simply train whenever it was convenient to me. Instead, I train early, when it is convenient to my family.

I train at night. I do this because to train in the morning I would have to roll my azz outta bed at about 2:30 am so I could get home before the wife goes to work at 4:00. However, I train 4 nights a week and my family does not question MY time at the gym. I will forgo training to attend one of my kids or wife's events as missing a workout here and there will not kill me, but I usually make it up on the weekends ...
Good post Baldy!

I agree wholeheartedly. It's impossible to take care of #'s 2,3,4,5... if you don't take care of #1. If you take a bit of time to be selfish, you have a whole lot of time to be 100% unselfish.

I asked Harry Pearl about this. He also believed what his brother wrote and practised it for years. Looking deeper, perhaps what is ment here is that there are some of us (myself included) that need to tame the beast early. Otherwise we are way too agressive with our family/friends and judgementalise too many events and actions of others. So I take it out on the weights. I'm a sweetheart after training. Momma Snake has asked me after doing something A-holish, "How come to didn't go to the gym this morning?" She sees right thru me.
I also think that maybe it's not so much the time of day but that a well trained man/woman takes on the day a way lot better than the average bear. Setting aside training time is NOT SELFISH.

IMO...this is one man's opinion. A success in his endeavors, YES, but, qualified to make a blanket statement like this, NO...just so happens this worked for Bill.
We all need to take this with a grain of salt, as there are plenty of well disciplined, successful people, that first of all, do not lift weights at all, and secondly, do not adhere to Bill Pearls personal philosophy of being up before the chickens. That's all.

OP, had a hard time accepting it came from BS. The followup post was better; can't totally agree, but respect what works for him.

Isn't the gist of the post/statement is to make sure you take care of yourself. In our busy lives, with work, kids, outside commitments, that you have to make sure you take time for yourself. Whether it be at 3:00am, or 7pm, whether it be working out/lifting or working on your classic car or golfing...make sure you take time for your own mental health so you can then better take care of those loved ones around you.
Just my take
