Senior Pic Update
Haven't posted in awhile so here is an update taken last Fall at age 69 (am now 70) after working with a local trainer and was at my best BF - around 10%. Am currently revamping my training and diet program and setting new goals. Any other "Over 60's" out there? Age is just a number!

You are 12 years older than me and look much much better. It's often hard to find anyone bodybuilding around my age let alone at 70. I'll keep you in mind on those mornings I need that extra motivation.

Wow, kenchi, looking awesome sir You are definitely ripped my friend. Being 41 myself, maybe I should start looking at this forum more. Once again, keep up the great work.

Now here's how it can be done!
Kenchi, you set the standard for all men over 65. Few of us can approach what you have accomplished, but I wish more would try! Here's to campaigning for geriatric fitness!

Many thanks
Thanks to all for responding to my post and for your kind words. As we get older, motivation becomes even more important. Most friends my age could care less about fitness, nutrition and bodybuilding (and they sure look it) so it is forums like this that keep me fired up and striving to improve.
Several asked about my program, so here are a few thoughts. I am currently working out at a local gym 6x/week - 3-4 days with free weights on a split program with days in between for abs and cardio. I try for 3 exercises per muscle group with 4 sets of 10-12 reps. Equally important, I am convinced that diet and nutrition are 80% of the fitness game - particularly as we get older. I try to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day and as "clean" as possible,i.e.; no refined sugar, white flour products, etc. Quality protein (steamed chicken breast, fish, whey, etc), Quality carbs (rolled oats, whole grains, yams, etc.) and quality EFA fats (ground flax seeds, olive oil, soy, etc.).
In spite of the upcoming holidays, my current goal is to get my BF back to the 10% area by the end of the year.
Once again, I am hoping to hear from other "seniors" out there. We are certainly not alone and can help each other.
Here are a few more pix, taken a few month after the above one.

Maybe the forum administrators would consider making an "over 55" or such clasification.

"Over 50 or 55" forum?

That is an excellent suggestion, lukamar. Our needs, training methods and goals are a bit different from the "20-somethings" and such a forum would be very helpful. Are there others out here who think the same - and how do we go about it?

I emailed the forum admin yesterday and received a reply this morning that they thought it was a good idea and they would check into it. I guess we just have to wait and see.
Most of the time I feel 35, and then there are those mornings that I feel 135 when I try and crawl out of bed and hobble around just get my joints to move. LOL

I don't think that an Over 50-55 forum is needed. I'm 55 and I count as my peers everyone in this forum regardless of age.

Joel....my wheels fell off at 58 and I began to train a lot different. I recently discovered that my Test was at the Nancy Regan level and I have fixed that...no longer pee sitting down or ponder over whether my bald head looks better with a blue or a red shirt. Also my workout and attitudes have returned pre 58. So what I'm saying is that I agree over 35 is fine. Why 35 I can't figure since all the competition assoc. call Masters 40 and over.

Baldie,
How about we rename the forum "Masters"? Without an age limit it implies anyone that is mature can join.

Seems ridiculous to have masters at 40 s/b be 55 and drop grand master.
I mean todays 65 is yesterdays 45 for my money. just thinking outloud.

I know of Clarence Bass and he has always been sort of an "idol" of mine so - wow - I thank you sincerely for the comparison and kind words. It is this type of support for each other that makes this forum so beneficial. You have given me additional "fuel" to strive for greater improvements.

My thought was not to replace the existing forum but rather to supplement it. As much as none of us like to admit it we are all aging to one degree or another, no matter how much we work to slow the process. Problems associated with aging include joint problems, slower recovery time and reliance on prescription medications and their side effects, just to mention a few. Having a separate section to discuss these and other things would make information exchange for this age group easier and those that do not feel confident or have physical or age related problems could discuss it among an age group they may feel more comfortable approaching.

Hi
I'm 69 - almost 70. I've been a bodybuilder all my life and weighed about 215 to 225. Never competed or won any awards but lifted for over 50 years and ran too. I've always had a lot of muscle and was very hard.
Because of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and a bad aortic valve (they said I just plain wore it out) I am getting a new heart valve this week - and am under 200 and headed for 180 pounds. They say my heart is very strong - just the valve needs replacing, and I need to lose weight to 180 or so.
My wife thinks I'm getting puny and I tell her that are some great 180 pound bodies, and even better proportioned than I ever was. Do you have some photos or know of a place I can get them - to show her that weightlifting life doesn't end when you lose 40 - 50 pounds?
The hospital said I can resume anything I want in 3 or 4 months. I never plan to quit lifting or running.
John Hansen majorhart@sbcglobal.net
I'd appreciate it.
John Hansen

FIRST: Congrats to our over 70 member for the excellent picture!
but as to another forum: I have to say, it will mean more work navigating the net.....
as an owner and moderator of another site, the more forums you have to check the harder it is...we added many more at the request of members too, but at one point had to cut back a little as it just gets out of hand......
